Baldy's LeO451 series updated and released!

Baldy is revising his models to include a VC view, I'm working on dps, airfiles & repaints. The airfile is proving somewhat "challenging". Screengrabs follow:

John,

Very lovely repaints, and from what I put her though in test flights, I think she's good to go. Thanks for all of your work trying to get her right. :very_drunk:

The airfile is proving somewhat "challenging".

Apart from a 400 hp difference in the powerplants, this ac had airframe and performance specs very close to the Ju88 in its day. If you have a good Ju88 flight model, you might use it as a baseline for overcoming the "challenges". Despite the huge disparity in horsepower from their engines, the LeO was only a few mph slower than the Ju88, which would suggest better aerodynamics.

Bearcat241,

John can explain the issues to you better than I can, but from what I can gather, the problems stem from the CoG being in an odd position, so that with full fuel or with any type of load, the CoG shifted so badly that the aircraft would tip forward and nose over or would not lift off the ground until the payload was released.

I had suggested using the Ju-188 or Dornier Do-17 (because of the twin tail) as the basis for a new airfile, but it appears he solved it.

air file problem

must hold my hands up on this one - ten years ago when I originally made the model I knew even less about the various files than I do now - Uncle and Rami have done sterling work correcting my error - thanks chums

I shall be uploading the new a/c very shortly

LeO 45/451 series

I have just uploaded the new LeO aircraft - although they say submitted by baldy the real driving force behind this effort was UncleTgt so must take the credit/blame for them.

If you have the old versions the textures for those are compatible with the new ones.

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - France

Description: Development of LeO 45 mainly involving an increase in fin area. This type was the mainstay of production which carried on under the Vichy government even after the armistice of 1940. After the British and Free French forces captured Vichy controlled Syria the situation arose whereby both sides operated this aircraft. The Germans used 50+ LeO 451 as transport a/c as did the Italian air force. When the Allies captured North Africa and then parts of Italy some LeO 451s were used by US forces.

Versions of this a/c were even produced in France after the war seeing service into the 50s.

Baldy and UncleTgt,

1) It was my pleasure to help test; kind of critical considering I'm using this bird in BoF.

2) Thanks to Baldy for taking the time to do an update to this model in the first place.

3) Thank you to John for your wonderful repaints and your work trying to tame this beast and get her as close to "right" as possible, including all the .dp mods.

4) All previous versions of this bird have been deleted per your request, so the only skins available in the library are the ones included with this package, as well as those by Dombral. Because I sent you and John the older versions prior to deletion, you may upload those at your discretion.

Here are the links to Dombral's skins, in case anyone would like them...

LeO 45/451 textures

As a footnote all previous textures by dombral are available in the cfs 2 skins France section - the only other skin is one I did which I have uploaded to cfs 2 skins American which shows one captured from the Germans overpainted with Allied markings.

John and Baldy,

I hate to be the monkey-wrench thrower here, but I am still having some issues with the airfile. When I tried to use the new aircraft in combat with a full load, she got "stuck" for several seconds before moving, and then accelerated ridiculously slowly down the runway and wobbled into the air with a lot of coaxing.

I looked at the fuel load and engine data and found out why...I removed the excess fuel, (from 960 to 855 gallons...I made the two aux tanks 178.5) and corrected the engine data for manifold pressure and other factors.

She now accelerates much better under full load, but after takeoff, a bit of the downward porpoising returned, and she needs about three-quarters up elevator to maintain level flight.

So my question is...what parameters did you use for adjusting the CoG so that she'll respond better to these new adjustments?

Quite an odd looking bird. The vertical stabilizer/rudder looks like it is upside down.

Great plane and repaints!!!:applause::applause:

Also glad someone used my Euro buildings: they fit perfectly in May40 scenarios...

Cheers,

Gius

Gius,

Yes. it is a great plane, and your ETO buildings are being used quite extensively in the Battle of France.
