F4-U Corsair Sound File?

Is anyone aware of a realistic sound file for the F4 Corsair? I reinstalled the latest upgrade for the "Birdcage" from JustFlight, but the sound set that comes with it is lacking.

No problem.

In the sound.cfg file, just pick the right or left engine, strip out all references to the other and change "number of engines" to 1 and save the file. You can do it for both engines and see which file you prefer.

I'll give that a try, but having glanced at the V2 R-2800 sounds, it's a 4-engine setup and the differentiation of various sounds for all 4 engines isn't obvious. . .at least not to me, so figuring out exactly what to strip out and what not to strip out may be a bit of a task, but I'll see what I can do. . . .and how bad it sounds when I'm done, :biggrin-new:

You can also go into the SOH Warbirds Library, search for "Tigercat" and on page 3 you will come to Milton Shupe & team's rendition of the F7F Tigercat.
It is complete with sounds. The next entry after that is some modified files for the sounds.

Now I know that this is again a twin-engine aircraft and you'll have to do some finagleing with the sound file.

You also might try to search "Lawdog" to see if he ever did a sound set for a single R-2800.

That's about all my ideas for you, sir.

EDIT: Go to the Warbird Library, search "Bearcat" and on page 2 at the bottom, you will find Lawdog2360's CFS2 soundset for the F8F Bearcat.

GMAN's Tigercat engine sounds are absolutely awesome. Especially the starting sequence.
They should work with the editing suggested above!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have three different sound sets now, each one named as a different sound file and each assigned to a different livery. I'll test each one now and see which one sounds correct to me. Thanks again for the assistance!!
 
One of my favorites is the "FS2004/FSX Vought F4U-1A Corsair HD Audio" by Skysong Soundworks, available for free at Flightsim.com, released just a few years ago. The filename is vcorsairsnz.zip
 
I seem to remember back several versions ago of Microsoft Flight Simulator there was a "Whistling Death" sound download that would turn on at given air speed and rate of descent. It was the best we could get at the time.

I remember that as well. It was a "corwind.wav" sound file for the CFS2 Corsair. IMO, the R-2800 sound is suitable for either the Hellcat or the Corsair, but what makes the Corsair an entity unto itself is this "Whistling Death" sound. The real trick with this particular file was in how the [WIND_SOUND] entry in the Sound.cfg file is set up. With decent PC speakers (I use either BOSE or Logitech) the F-4U could almost like a Stuka in a dive. I don't know how accurate that is, but it's really something to hear.
