Lt S D Culley DSO of the RNAS - Lighter released!

something else I'm working on -conversion of Jens B Kristensen's Felixstowe F2A from FS9 to CFS2

it converts well, just need to work on the panels and dp -- Jens has given me permission to upload when ready

Baldy,
A lovely surprise. Looking forward to the Felixstowe. It will be interesting to see it alongside Stuart Green's version.
The RNAS floatplane family is now very well populated thanks to you.
Any chance there might be an opposition floatplane somewhere down the track? I'm thinking W.12 or W.29:wavey:

Great, can't wait to try this one!

And don't forget Brandenburg W.18 and Macchi M.5 as well. I would love to be able to recreate fights over Adriatic Sea. :jump:

How did I miss Stuart Green's aircraft ? I must be going ga-ga ! The main point was to try to replicate an F2A on a lighter - it doesn't really work because when the game generates an a/c on a flight deck it's very hit and miss where it's going to appear, also the lighter ( even with guns ) wont really maintain station to look as if it's being towed - it stays close but moves alongside the destroyer ( its 25 knots must be faster than the destroyer's 25 knots ) --

When they see the Zeppelin both lighter and destroyer feel themselves under air attack, then start a right-hand turn as evasive maneuver. Since the lighter is behind the destroyer it will turn inside the destroyer's trajectory and will overtake it. I don't know much about how to manage ships in missions. Maybe it should be possible to make them sail straight forward even when attacked (like bombers do).

Thicko made a Brandenburg W.12 while Bortdafarm (Chris Benson) has done the W.18 and Macchi M.5, both of which could do with a new coat of paint.

Alexander Belov made a fantastic Austrian naval and seaplane base at Kumbor, Montenegro (found at Avsim). It's for FS2004 but works perfectly in CFS2.

I have tried them (as well as other planes from him) and they would need much more than new skins. 3D models are off and I am not sure they are correctly mapped. This, plus their DPs and airfiles seem to be borrowed from CFS1 Sopwith Camel.

Baldy, would you mind uploading this Sopwith Camel skin, please? I have a weapon configuration that would fit perfectly with a RNAS Camel for Zeppelin hunting. :wavey:

Hi Roxane

I've emailed Gary Aumaugher for his permission to upload - I'll keep you posted, in the meantime here's the revised mission which fixes the lighter's track and uses Stuart's R class destoyer

just delete the .txt from the mission

This is what I feared...

Most common gun configuration (used during the raid to Tondern) was one wing-mounted Lewis gun and one Vickers gun firing through the propeller (sometimes they kept both Vickers). The twin wing-mounted Lewis were exclusively used WITHOUT the Vickers.

I tried to get rid of the Vickers guns by adding alpha channel to gun textures, but then I faced two issues:
1- The aiming devices of the Vickers still remained.
2- There were two huge holes on the nose in front of the pilot were the guns used to be.

That's why I chose this configuration.

I think we will not have the correct gun configuration unless somebody edit the 3D model.

I've had a look at these issues and the only solution within my capabilities was to create a new cowling to add as 'wep_cowling' in the dp ( unfortunately the Vickers gunsights don't appear to be textured so remain in view )

the 2D panel is easy enough to alter but the vc panel is less satisfactory

some pics to illustrate

the other problem is whether we can get permission to alter files in the original a/c

Cool, looking forward to this.

Also I noticed your Lewis gun is textured on your screenshot. I took it from your Sopwith Schneider, but there were no texture file. Is there another file available here from which I could grab this texture file, please?
