Gidday, I have GMAX working on Win 10. I have two desktop shortcuts, one pointing to standard GMAX and the other pointing to the CFS3 gamepack within GMAX. The properties of that shortcut are: "%GMAXLOC%gmax.exe -i gamepacks\CFS3\gmax.ini -p gamepacks\CFS3\plugin.ini -t "Combat Flight Simulator 3" ". The shortcut Start In window says %GMAXLOC%.

Also, when I right click on the shortcut, it is set to Run As Administrator.

My installation works in Windows 10. I just installed it and it worked without a problem.

Used this file from FSAlpha to get pass the registration issue

One thing I learnt from Frosty is to use a short cut pointing to where Gmax is installed; not to directly open a Gmax file which is in another place. Of course Gmax give a recent list as well which is fine.

As fas as I can tell, the default gmax program and the CFS3 gamepack use their own .ini file which might differ from each other, depending on the changes you made to the default one.
If you open a gmax file by clicking it, it will be opened by/in default gmax. If the .ini settings differ from the gamepack's, unwanted things might happen to both your UI and model, such as a unit replacement or conversion.
But if you start gmax from the gamepack shortcut first and then open the file within the program, it will use the gamepack .ini file which is probably what you want. Only if both .ini files are similar, it doesn't matter how you open your file. It is possible to port the gamepack stuff over to the default gmax folders, essentially turning default gmax into the gamepack. Works fine but makes uninstalling the gamepack and going back to default gmax a bit more complicated .

Anyway, I've installed gmax on a Win10 laptop without a single hickup. I did use the registration workaround. I don't know why it wouldn't work for you, Ted.
