PC Source/Parts Source Help!

Hey everyone,


I have run into a snag getting my new PC to replace the one that was hit by lightning last month. I have been a long time customer of Dell but they have screwed up in this order. I ordered a XPS 8930 with an i9-9900k, 32gb RAM, NVIDIA RTX-2080 Super, 1TB SSD and 1TB HDD. They told me on this past Monday the PC would be in build this week and shipped for delivery no later than Friday but as of today, they delayed the delivery to nearly July citing parts supply issues. I know other folks who received their new PC’s from Dell so I guess I fell into that unlucky slot.


Anyhow, am looking for suggestions on either a reputable full build PC supplier or a parts supplier who can fulfill my needs so I can build it on my own. I had about $2800 set into this order with plans to add 2 more SSD’s in once I received it from Dell. Any and all suggestions are welcome.


As I typed this, Dell asked that I give them 24 to 48 hours to get one of their customer care case specialists to contact and help me but I fear more song and dance via discount offers to appease me to put up with the new delay. Not going to happen!
 
I built/updated my last two PC's with parts from Newegg. Their pricing is good, they ship reasonably quickly, and aside from one motherboard arriving with a manual that was only in Chinese (the box was in English, so the screwup wasn't on Newegg, and I just looked up the relevant manual on my phone), I've had zero problems with them.

https://pcpartpicker.com/ is also a good source, since it'll let you assemble a list of components, give you prices, and warn you if you do something like select a power supply that's too small or the wrong kind of motherboard for the processor.
 
Build your own, really not that difficult and very satisfying.
That said, part delays are a problem everywhere due to COVID-19, primarily due to the source of supply.
Many (or most) distributors simply can't get stock, understandable as so much of the global economy is not exporting or manufacturing, including China, Taiwan, Singapore Etc.
As an aside, I purchased my first 'built' PC in 1996 and have built my own ever since.

I built my own using the PC Parts Picker website as well. In fact, I have another build saved there as I await what I'll need for FS2020. I love that there are so many options in terms of style by building it yourself and I love how the site makes sure all of the components play well with each other. I also like how it finds the lowest cost for those parts on the web when you're ready to order.
 
I have built at least a dozen computers over the years. All the parts, with one early exception, came from Newegg. I have never been disappointed.
 
Thank you all for the source info. As of this afternoon, I cancelled my entire Dell order and as soon as I see the charges credited back, I am terminating my account with them. It seems they took a lot of orders and made promises they could not keep in terms of delivery schedules and have claimed that COVID-19 is the primary cause. Interestingly, all the other builders (including a local PC builder) told me they are having no issues getting the parts they need, only short delays which are more shipping related rather than manufacturing related do to the onslaught of more online orders as well as other increases in shipping needs. Looking at the building anger at Dell right now on their social media sites, it seems the current foreign outsourced hubs are running the company into the ground in terms of customer service and in some instances, quality control issues. 20 years a loyal customer, never seen this poor of state from them before. Nevertheless, I have excellent source leads now, most promising to deliver in 5 to 7 days. Thanks again everyone!
 
Yeah it's not that hard. I had been a Dell customer for several years but I spec'ed and ordered my most recent computer from Cyberpower thru Costco. No problems except I bent the CF card pins on the $8 media card reader.

I can echo both parts of that statement. And no regrets with Newegg.
