Scenery Help Please!

I'm continuing to rebuild my FSX on my new PC and I'm having to relearn a lotta stuff that I haven't used in about 8 years!:dizzy: I've run up against something I have been unable to figure out. I've been reinstalling some MAIW scenery, some FS9 and some FSX, moist of which I had installed on my old PC. I installed one I've not had before, "KFHU Sierra Vista Libby AAF." It's a fairly simple and small upload scenery and has one suggested prerequisite, to install the MAIW Beaufort scenery. I already had that one in and running. So far of all the scenery I've reinstalled this (KFHU) is the only one that isn't behaving.

The scenery sits at the top of the scenery list. ORBX (all of it) is positioned in their recommended locations. The problem is that the default FSX scenery buildings are present and their locations conflict with the MAIW structures. There are no other AFX or other KFHU bgls that I can find except for default. I've been working on this for about a week now and haven't been able to solve it.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

Steve it sounds like previous excludes were somehow lost, especially if the presence of default buildings is the only problem. Easily solved if you have ADE, but that's the only thing that comes to mind.

Thanks Ed. I have ADE but I've not used excludes before.

Duckie,

Do yourself a favour and don't use FS9 sceneryy!!

Priller

Priller, I appreciate the advice and understand it. I know it's not ideal and my 'drathers would be to follow it. However, until and unless somethings are converted to native, I'll use the one's I really want if they work without breaking something. If this one can't be fixed to my satisfaction I won't use it. If it can I will.

Thanks all,

Steve

Easy! Have your airplane loaded at the field, Load ADE. . .load the ADE file from the scenery folder for that scenery. ADE should show an "X" to indicate the position of your airplane. Slew to the center of each default building and draw an exclude box (yellow box at the top). After you draw that box it will bring up a pop up with various selections. Leave it with "ALL" checked. Move to each building and repeat the process. Once done, you'll want to save, then compile (upper right corner). That will give you an "Options" menu, just browse to the scenery folder where you got the ADE file and click compile. Close ADE (Save again if it asks).

You'll need to close the sim and then reload to see any changes.

Couple questions please.
1. Load the new scenery or the default?
2. Some of the default buildings that are showing are overlapping the buildings in the new scenery. Will the exclude block the new buildings as well?
3. The default buildings don't show up in ADE on the new airport so how do I know exactly where to draw the boxes?

Sorry to be so thick.

The new scenery

No, just the default

Slew you airplane up higher than the buildings, then using a top down view slew to the center of the default building. In ADE you should see the red "X" that indicates where your airplane is in the sim, that also will show you where to draw the boxes because even though they aren't shown in ADE your airplane position marks the spot. I don't believe the box has to be the same size as the building, any size as long as it's on the red X will work.

!Well DUH! Thanks for the light bulb moment ED!

:biggrin-new: I'll definitely be practicing this one. In the mean time I was given a quick and dirty fix with options to use or not (undo) that worked in this instance.

Thanks very much, Ed, for taking the time to explain this and for the lesson on exclusions. My skull is less think now! :encouragement:

What was the fix you used Steve?

I disable the OBX file for the specific default scenery airport which took out all the default library object used just for that airport.

Ed, also just finished following your instructions and I was successful in applying it as well. Had to get used to the exclude boxes not exactly lining up with the object as they were placed but it worked first try.

So, thanks again for your help.

Steve

Good to know Steve. I should have thought of that but I'm so used to drawing excludes, lol. . .oh well, glad you got it fixed. Also MCX can recompile the object libraries for MAIW scenery to FSX. That's what I did with Randolph and a few others.
