New install of P3D won't run

Francois

FS Veteran
I installed P3D a while ago and used it a few times, until THIS message popped up 2 days ago.
I noticed there was a new version of V5, so I uninstalled the current and re'installed no. 31

But..... getting the same message. I can read what it means.... but how the heck do I solve that problem?

(I checked, all the files seem to be there in the Windows Apps, I am baffled)

Hi François
Try to uninstall the scenery using configuration panel Windows. Then run the scenery.msi
Good luck

If necessary, do the same with the content.

Hi,

Before installing the new version, did you clean the registry of remnants of the old version? And did you run the installer of v5 as an administrator? The fact that you are an admin of your machine is not sufficient. Rightclick on the installer and select run as an administrator.

IMHO, clean the registry, delete the remants of P3D in the app data and program data, then do a repair of the installation of v5.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Priller

Hi François,

So you're using P3Dv5 if I read your post correctly?
Try going control panel, uninstall program, click on P3Dv5 Client and you should get the option to uninstall or repair P3Dv5.
Worth giving the repair option a run, it usually works.

Hi al, thanks for the replies.

I did the 'repair' first, when the message first popped up, still on the previous V5 version )0.024 I believe) which was a clean install on this PC.
That didn't work.

So then I uninstalled using the Windows Apps screen..... and no, didn't clean the registry per se.

After that I downloaded and installed the newer version, and the same message appeared. Will have a look at cleaning the registry and install yet again.... another 2 hours .... grrrrrr..... I hope my FS2020 will run in the meantime, that will shorten the wait :biggrin-new:

Baby steps..... now I get a load of these errors..... and in the end it says it has to abort. Grrrr.

Click yes on that scenery .cfg error. You can go back later and check it. Updaating the main program did that to a lot of my add-on sceneries. The program will still load after those errors are rejected.

Tried that, but after all the 'yes' clicks it says it cannot continue and will abort.

Have now de-installed, erased all Registry entries and all entries in AppData and will re-install for a third time this afternoon....... Wish me luck !

I wonder if you might have a corrupt program download. Might try redownloading the program again. I prefer to download the individual parts, instead of the all in one zip. That one always gives me errors.

Tried that too. But I have the same error on two different versions.

And now I did a complete clean install, in a different directory than the previous ones, after cleaning everything..... and I am back to the error message in the first post.

I am close to giving up....... :dizzy::dizzy::dizzy::dizzy:

As someone who works in IT for a living, nothing helps more than a complete reinstall of your rig!

It will also improve performance of your rig!

As someone who has now retired from 40 years in IT and has just wiped this PC a few months ago, I resent that idea :biggrin-new::biggrin-new::biggrin-new::biggrin-new::biggrin-new:

Seriously, I just have installed FSX, X-Plane and FS2020 and am happy with all of them. (and they all run fine). There must be a better way to solve this ??

What does it mean 'There are no airports, NDB's or cities in the dataset'??? They are all in the folders where they belong, I can see them !!
What dataset ????
And where is my scenery.cfg.... did Lockheed do away with that !? I skipped V4 so I have no idea.

Update:

Found yet another Lockheed folder under ProgramData on the C-disk. So there are the config files. Not on the D-Disk where P3D is installed. Would these be wrong, or old I wonder ?
(I only deleted the AppData in my User folder, never saw this one. Please, not ANOTHER clean install !? My wife is going to kill me....:listening_headphone

Trying one more thing. Found the DeleteGenereratedData exe and ran that. Sure enough the entire folder on the C-disk has disappeared.
Now doing a 'Repair' install to see if it gets generated again, and - hopefully - with the correct data in it?:santahat:

You found the scenery.cfg in the C://Program Data/Lockheed Martin folder. That is the correct scenery.cfg. Sounds like that one was somehow totally corrupted. I did have a few "missing" sceneries after I installed v5, including area 113. But never a completely corrupted one like yours. All my listed missing ones were add-ons. I could be wrong, but doesn't the program rebuild the scenery.cfg from scratch like it does the main .cfg, when it is renamed or deleted?

That's what I am trying now............. takes ages !!

Yay it worked.... P3D is running again in all its glory..... well... hmmmm..... Iy was indeed a matter of remaining files (on the C-disk, the ones I never found until a few hours ago).

Ran the DeleteGeneratedFiles utility from the root folder, and then did a Repair from the Windows Apps.

At long last the sim started and built its scenery database anew.

Now, back to FS2020 for a new patch !! :biggrin-new::biggrin-new:
