Post 17 Warning old domain name stealing credentials

  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION - ALL MEMBERS PLEASE READ

Due to an increase in the number of new members who are trying to systematically download our entire Resource Library (one new member yesterday tried to download 3,000+ files AT ONCE!) we are being forced to implement some changes regarding who can download what, how many files at a time and at what speed. As the forums and Resource Library share the same bandwidth when the Library gets overloaded with demand like that the forums fall over, as we have all seen recently. It's sad that greed has forced our hand in this way but we must do something for the benefit of all our legitimate members (many of whom paid money for the upkeep of the site) and to prevent the files stored here being used for nefarious purposes. Many of our uploads have specific conditions tied to them that forbid uploading to any other site or deny uploading to any site that has a 'paywall' (i.e. a pay to download policy). Due to the number of mass download attempts recently we can only assume that somebody, somewhere, is attempting to stock up a new file library with our files and we owe it to our up-loaders to protect their files and intellectual property especially as many (like my own LDR Development projects) are made available at SOH only and are specified as such in the 'read me' files.

The forums and Resource Library will be taken offline as of 13:00 EDT with the forums coming back online shortly after without the resources library while we work on setting up permissions on the new Library module.

We hope our members understand why we need to do this and will bear with us while we implement the changes.

    Thanks in anticipation, SOH ADMINISTRATION

Downloads are now active. You may proceed with downloading as desired

The download limits are a work in progress. Some settings are likely to need tweaking in the coming days.

Monitor size, type, and brand for FS?

I'm getting ready to buy a new system to replace my completely antiquated system I had used for years running FSX. As such, I'm also looking to replace my adequate, but rather limited 25" 2K Dell monitor with something larger in 4K. I am curious what size, type (flat vs. curved, gaming vs. standard, or even a smaller 4K HDTV), and what brands of monitors people are using? I'm kind of interested in the curved 32" Dell 4K UHD (S3221QS), but have never used a curved monitor (or HDTV) before. Overall, I'm curious what people are using or are planning on buying for FS2020...
I've seen some crazy options out there - up to the 48" LG CX series OLED 4K TV. That's probably a little over the top for my needs. :mixed-smiley-010:

I just ordered a new 4K screen last week. Unfortunately, it wont be here until after Xmas due to its popularity.

I'm not convinced we need OLED for this task. After some research, I ordered a Samsung 55" 4K HDR SMART 240MR QLED - QN55Q70TAFXZC

I'm using a 4K LG 55UN7300 55 inch LED TV I picked up at Costco for I think $379. Works great. Have it on my desk about two and a half feet in front of me.. makes for a nearly life size cockpit which is great. :)

As FlyingsCool indicates, I think 55" is the sweet spot for cockpit size and instruments to be similar to their real world size.

I could easily pipe it to a 55" Samsung 4HD TV, but that's overshooting it. I use a 32" 4HD Samsung monitor.

For those using TVs for this sim, how does the Windows UI look? I had a 42 inch (not 4K) Pioneer TV hooked up to a computer for a test. Video was fine, but text (Notepad, file manager) was ugly. I'm guessing 4K TVs should look better.

For this sim I have a 43 inch HP monitor.

I'd strongly suggest looking at an ultra-widescreen monitor (3440x1440, 34-inches or wider) -- the extra visual size does a lot more than 4K. (Unless you'd doing something huge like a 4K TV.) Mine (Dell 34") is curved but it's not really noticeable.

Or, keep the old monitor and put the money towards HP Reverb G2 VR goggles. :)

My 4K 58" Panasonic TV is the clearest and most colour accurate 'monitor' I've ever owned. I'm expecting the incoming Samsung will surpass it though because it's HDR. Can't say it's as good as the best Mac monitors though, they can be phenomenal.
