Stock P-38J/L overhaul, ETO, MTO & Pacific

Continuing with the same style as my previous Mustang overhauls I'm now taking on the stock Lightnings. Surprisingly much technical variety to be found, at least six different flight dynamics will be presented. Normal and boosted ailerons, with and without dive recovery flaps, engines running on normal and 150 grade fuel. All happily mixed together.

And the first one actually got finished today. Starting off with a less spectacular example.

Outstanding news ! A much needed aircraft for CFS3. Can't wait for the series of this much overlooked fighter. Thank you Rene for your hard and excellent work ! Regards, Scott

I've been doing my best to paint around the problems of the model. It's so crooked and distorted at so many places that sometimes getting a straight line necessitates a nearly 45 degree angle in the middle of it... and other interesting mapping decisions, to put it mildly. The Tempest was relatively OK, the Mustangs were bad at places, this is worse. I probably won't dare to do another one because with such progression it'll be beyond hopeless.

:biggrin-new: No fun is it Rene, nice job though!:encouragement:

The model may be showing its age Rene but the texture looks superb!
Is there no newer CFS3 model than the stock one? I seem to remember a Dancat P38J but my wine addled memory isn't what it was!

Unfortunately no. The one you're remembering is an F, an important model in its own right though.

And because these overhauls wouldn't be half as interesting without some actually new things... a couple of DIY bomb racks in the 82nd FG style, anyone?

I've always been impressed with what a good painter can do with a mediocre model. Case in point. She looks great in the new clothes!

Rene is not only one of my best friends,he is so very talented and helpful. These P-38's are going to be great for CFS3. Glad he took this task on. Regards,Scott

This project was put on a hold very abruptly last Saturday - I got wheeled to the hospital with mild stroke symptoms, not kidding. The work continues as soon as I get back home again but at the moment there are quite a few other things for me to think about.
