War In Korea

Fellows, i've been thinking. With all the ETO and PTO CFS2 enhancements in mind, i feel my Korean install is left a little behind. Flying those early jets adds another dimension to CFS2. Especially the FOX-FOUR packages is very well done. BUT, i wish we could have an update of the scenery, bases, infrastructure etc like we now have for the ETO/PTO.

Of course the latest mesh etc goes right in. So does your preferred Asian terrain texture. 1940, 1950, the same world.
But it would make those campaigns even better if we had historically correct blended bases with the vehicles, choppers, trucks etc. The whole Mash stuff with Hawkeye and Radar.

This should be a very interesting project for our scenery gurus!? Maskrider, Pen32, Dog1, Xavier, Achim and the rest of you, please...

Morton,

I will be buisy in Germany in order to complete Europe. But afterwards, why not. But this would be very much down the road.

Cheers

Achim

I looked and didn't see any bases,by the way what is the preferred texture for 1950's Korea?:friday:

Didn't Xavierb do some Korean bases already? :isadizzy:

The EAWWII FULL....all WWII designs, mostly short dirt strips for prop plane ops only. Can't operate jets from them.

Same as 1945 WWII...only five years difference...regional vegetation don't change that quickly.

Here's a tip...

BUT, i wish we could have an update of the scenery, (blended) bases, infrastructure etc like we now have for the ETO/PTO. Morton

... that will go a long, long way toward improving the current FF Korean scenery right now:

Download and install Keltichheart's transparent or translucent grass bmp. These are drop-in replacements for the stock grass on bases, and will really blend McClleland's Korean bases nicely in one fell swoop.

Download Here: newgrass.zip

They are available here at SOH in MY STUFF AT SOH below. :engel016:

Guys!

Thi fellow is using the Fox Four campaigns, which means Steve McClleland's Far East scenery. Korea already has more bases than you can shake a stick at. He's just looking for upgrades.

Morton, here are a couple of shots of a Korean base using Kelti's transparent grass.... :jump:

The translucent grass gives a slightly different effect. Personally I pay little attention to scenery when flying a combat sim, but this should help quench your thirst.

While you're on the subject TR, the re-fuel areas in Steve's airstrips...I never understood their purpose. Can one actually refuel there?

Absolutely....

While you're on the subject TR, the re-fuel areas in Steve's airstrips...I never understood their purpose. Can one actually refuel there?

They are 100% functional. Just taxi into the square and wait a few seconds to see your fuel gauge go back to 100%. I usually shutdown my engine to keep busy during the process, but it isn't necessary.

Actually....

...here is a map of the bases in the Fox Four McClelland scenery with their GPS and ADF settings. In fact, I added three Chinese bases to this list and they are included in the Red Star campaign download...the MiG bases. That's about as dense a population of airfields as you could ask for.

Incidentally, all of the Korean bases are historically correct in location and general features. They vary from crude to modern just like the real deals. They have refueling points, ADF and are on the KoreanGPS.gau. They are left bare-boned because they are not destroyable, and I like to make each base look a bit different on each mission, so I avoid layouts and overly fancy FPS killers....bu that's just me.

Geez....

TR, I go through all the time and trouble to make new "Gabby" skins and you use the old ones........

Why do I bother????????????:faint:

Bub

Just kidding!:wavey:

Thanks for the info Tango, i'll try your tips.
However, i still think those "old" bases and airstrips could be improved a lot. To satisfy CFS2 hardcore idiots like me it takes more to make a runway than drawing out some squares and dropping a gray color onto it. :d

I agree completly Morton ,and I agree with TR Too ,I think that if a upgrade must be done this will must be better than the old version.
Today I think that it's emergency to wait the next Rhumba's Land and water masks before launch any big project or directly begin it with the right coords in all the levels.

Tchin' :friday:

Absolutely....

There's no question that those bases can use an upgrade, as can the Far East scenery. But I would like to see them replaced with something reasonable, not one of those FPS-eating setups that kill missions.

I know the artists and diorama boys will ply their trade and more power to them, but I'm a mission guy. What can I say? :monkies:

To go deeper in what I think about ,a improvement that can be done that will not affect the existing airbases and doesn't depend of the shoreline and LW masks is a rework of their landclass values with to make the thing well done integrate the fact that a hard winter set needs to be previous too ,we are some here to begin to understand the process for cfs2,it's easy to say that but the realize for the entire Korea will not be a piece of cake ,but that is feasible.
.........ok,ok!:monkies:

Snowing...

There are already winter textures available for download that work well in Steve's Far East. We provided links to the download in the Fox Four packages.

And yes, Steve's shorelines are fine. The lack of inland rivers in other than distance views is a drawback, but not a big one.

We really do spend too much time reinventing the wheel...because there is so much out there that everyone is not aware of. :engel016:
