HS 748 now FSX Compatible....

Does that take care of the see-through co-pilot seat? I'm afraid I will fall out of the aircraft.

David

No, it doesn't. I did some research and it seems that the transparent seat is a problem with the cockpit model and how it handles that particular texture. Without a change in the model, the transparent seat cannot be fixed. At least that's what I read. Otherwise, this is a great addition to FSX now that GypsyBaron has addressed the panel issues.:wiggle::woot:

Hummm...I do not have a transparent co-pilots seat
and I don't recall having modified any textures with
regard to that issue.

That said, I have modified many of the textures, including
conversion to DDS format and adding my own customizations.

Also, I have hte original FS9 files, copied to FSX and
then modified by me.
EDIT: I'm using the "2A" model with a date of 1/9/2007. Size 2,722KB.

I'll download this latest version and see if there are
any differences that jump out at me.

My seats are both textures in the VC, fwiw.

HS748 transparent seat 'fix'

OK, I found the problem with the HS748 seat textures
that causes the seats to be transparent.

There is a missing texture file that is called out in the model
but was not distributed.

I must have discovered this along time back as I have the
texture file and no transparentcy issues.

Here is the simple fix:

Open the 'texture' folder....that is the one that contains
all the common textures and is referenced in the texture.cfg
fallback path statement.

Make a COPY of file "748VC_SEAT.bmp"

RENAME the COPY to "DM_1-11_VC_SEAT.bmp"

You now have two 'seat' textures...the same file with
two different names. The model file calls both of these
textures by those names.

You should no longer have transparent seats.

I looked there and could not find anthing about the engine start problem fix. Can you please post the info on the fix? Best regards,Bob.

First, check in your panel folder and see if the gauge
file "HS7.cab" has a date of "8/15/2007".

If it does, you have the latest gauge file with the starter
modifications included. Otherwise you need to get that
file. It is included in the recent download from the
link in this thread.
EDIT: Here is a link to the download for FSX:

Next, when following the dropdown checklist, when you
press the "Start" button and #2 spools up to 1K RPM
or so, you MUST then OPEN the HP Cock for that engine.
It will then continue starting.

The same goes for the #1 engine.

Ignore the entry in "After Start" "HP Cocks OPEN"
This should have been in the "Starting" section.

The engines will not start with the HP Cocks closed.

I just tested this with the latest HS7.cab and the starter
works OK.

I'm bumping this back to the top simply because I'm happy to have a twin turbo-prop freighter with a fully functional and beautiful VC. My first pick would have been a Convair CV580, but it looks like it will be quite a while before we will see a CV580 with a full VC for FSX SP2.

:bump:

Hi Guys. I just can't seem to get the editing of the 'panel.cfg' file to work. I always end up with either the shiny image, or something even stranger.

Can someone please let me have a modified file? I really would be very grateful:help::help::help:

Hi Paul

I have been wondering why the released 748 model had no seat backrest texture

It was ok on my own pc and not on anyone elses but i have the DM texture still in my FSX texture folder from back when i was building it.

Brilliant find.

The model is a FS9 makemdl outputted mdl file.

this release is FSX compatible as the source files are very mixed up as i did a system restore which means every file has the same date stamp and i have yet to find which of the 90+ was the final mdl.

I cannot animate the concertina rear airstairs in FSX which is why i have not rebuilt for FSX native as thats the best part (took 4 weeks to make those work correctly in FS9!)

Rick

Rick...The plane is a real beauty to fly..Its been in one of my hangers since you released it..Both in FS9 and FSX

Thank you for this.....:applause:

I, too, have the DM texture and as I was looking into the
transparent seat issue the other day I was wondering what
it was doing in that directory :)

I believe I discovered that 'missing texture' a year or
more ago by checking the "bmp" callouts in the MDL file.
I most likely then moved that texture from one of my DM aircraft
into the 748 texture folder.

As luck would have it, as I was trying to isolate the
transparent seat the other day by moving textures from my
'working' install to one with the issue, that DM texture was
the LAST one I moved !
I could have saved myself alot of time had my memory
been a bit better :)

In any case, I'm happy that we got things sorted out
as this is a fantastic model and a 'must have' for both
FS9 and FSX, IMO.
