It has been so long since I've done this that I'm not sure what is best. Perhaps you good people could help. :)

I just finished setting up CFS2 on my new, 17 in, Win11, 32 Gb RAM, lntel 13th gen i7, 1 Tb storage (Intel USG grapics laptop. I set it up using my most current copy of the install of the USS Saratoga campaign that I've been working on the past months. I haven't even hooked up my joystick yet but I went into Settings anyway. I went into display settings/image quality and there I realized how much I lost over the years:

1. What is DEM? Mine is set at very low. Should I leave it there, set it higher and what are the effects of doing so?
2. My Terrain Complexity Level is set at 15%. - (Same question as above.)
3. I changed my Max object texture size from 512 to 1024,assuming the power of this computer should easily deal with complex objects like Usio's ships. Right or wrong?
4. I checked all four boxes to the right center of the window - aircraft and ground scenery shadows, detail texturing and high detail VC.

By the way, I had no problems with setting up CFS2 and Mission Builder in Win 11. I just did everything the way I did it for Win 10 and both start normally. BUT when I set it to Free Flight (just now) CFS2 did a CTD when I went to select aircraft... hmm. Once I post this, I will look for a Win 11 install thread in the "stickies."

All advice and suggestions on these issues is greatly appreciated.

Cheers:

Screenshots? Nah... CTD was without warning or reason, so there are none to be taken. Dirtman: the DEM has, in my opinion, nothing to do with HP. It is one of the settings in the settings\display window of CFS2.

I am still trying various thing to get the sim to work. I even pasted in, from my archives, a clean install of CFS2. Like the other, MB and the standard game both load, but FF is a no-go CTD.

The DEM is the Digital Elevation of the scenery in the game.I don't remember how to spell his name,Rhumba something, but he did mesh DEM5,DEM7 and DEM8 and you call it mesh in the game. There is a site where you can get it for the whole world.

The higher you settings for the DEM the more detail.

"The higher you settings for the DEM the more detail."

Thanks Hiede! That is exactly the answer I was looking for.
