Typical USN fleet aircraft appearance....

This was a problem even in the old gull grey / gloss white schemes in the 60s & 70;s - then the type of paint changed and it got somewhat better. The touchup is require for corrosion control purposes, not appearance. Some airplane types were better than others. Remember the Tomcat was relatively old metal technology compared to more modern types. For whatever reasons the A-6 and A-7 fared on with less corrosion control concerns as I recall.

Glad to see you are still around, Mike! Happy I was a Tweak and never had to do any corrosion control on the Whales! It was bad enough crawling up into the hell-hole to change out
the old AN/Arc-27 UHF radios after a flight and then come to find out the ass end of the aircraft was now hanging out over the side of the ship! 😱

Quick question....Is your son Commanding Officer, USS Hershel "Woody" Williams?

Zippy - no, not my last name. Anyway, I remeber how the Whales hung over the deck edge when the ABHs shoved them up against the scuppers!

I also remeber those ARC-27s in the A-4; had the outer dial ring break apart changing freqs one night! Kinda frangible plastic -- or a mech stepping on the left console by accident

Yep, those Skyhawk cockpits were not, shall I say, "spacious"? 🤣🤣🤣. From a maintainers perspective, it felt more like a sports car with wings. NC
