Nice Jerry - Glad you found the problem.
Always seems to be the "little things" that come back and bite you in the ass ...
eh?
To All:
Properly diagnosing a problem is the fastest way to solve it.
Starting at the beginning and then work thru each level until you find the issue.
DO NOT GUESS ... follow a procedure, beginning to end otherwise you'll miss the problem and waste allot of time ... plus the FRUSTRATION!!!
On the PC, start with installation issues. Not just CFS2 but ANY application you are installing.
Want undeniable proof?
This thread was started Sept.1
All of you fine, knowledgeable, skilled & helpful members did your collective best to try & figure this out.
ALL your suggestions are accurate and reflect everyone's deep knowledge & experience with the sim.
It further highlighted the willingness of members to help each other ... a "noble gesture" to say the least.
Yet the problem remained ... why?
Because the basic diagnostic procedure was not followed.
On Sept. 3, Allen identified the actually issue - post #22 don't use Program Files (x86).
I got into this on Sept. 5 (post #32) because I noticed the 1st step "check installation" was constantly passed over ... oops?
Step 1 - validate your install media - he has new discs ...
no problem here!
Step 2 - validate location of installation - AHA! solved ....
tickity-boo!
Would have been fixed last Friday but with TB being ill it has taken a bit longer.
PS;
I am not a trained IT Pro ... I am "self taught"
starting with CFS2, with the kind & invaluable help from the members of this forum starting in Oct. 2005 a couple months after I bought my 1st PC.
I worked as an auto mechanic for 45+ years, during which I learned the critical value of proper diagnostics.
- If your local mechanic is unable to diagnose your cars problem, in a
maximum of 2 hours; pay the diagnostic fee &
take it somewhere else!
That guy is poorly trained and performs sub-standard work.
- the diagnosis MUST REPAIR THE PROBLEM 100%, the 1st time - NO 2nd chances!
Otherwise the mechanic is just "guessing", replacing parts with a: "we'll see if that fixes it" attitude ... all at
YOUR EXPENSE.
- one customer had a serious engine overheating problem.
Had spent almost $3000 at 2 shops ... yet the problem remained unchanged.
- I found the problem IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES.
Had nothing physically to do with the engine!
Just replaced a damaged $75 "body part" (air dam) plus a minimum $50 diagnosis & labour charge.
Problem solved in ONE HOUR plus I gained a new customer whom still regards me as the "Gawd of Auto Repair" .
I "hung up" my toolbox in 2006
(retired early - to care for my elderly Mother) and have been applying my skills to PCs ever since.
For the past 2 1/2 years I have been "beating Win11 into submission" by developing methods of bypassing Microsoft's new b@ll sh+t security & hardware requirements.
I can install it on ANY PC that has a CPU with the required sub-set instructions.
But really ... I just LOVE a good "bug hunt" !!!
Thank you for listening to my rant ... I hope you have learned something from it.
