Mosaic Editor in Windows 11 - need some help

I am now running on Windows 11. I haven't pulled all my hair out yet but I'm carefully considering it. I cannot get the mos editor to run. I have .NET framework, DX9, and installed the mdxredist on top. CFS3, gmax (with CFS3 plugin) all will load just fine. Is there a specific .NET or DX installer I need to run? Is anyone else running the mos editor in Windows 11?
 
Not part of this discussion until now, but I always run Pro. There seems to be less problems with it and other applications. I've run professional since version 95
 
Daniel Try this process

1. Set MOSEditor.exe compatibility mode windows xp (service Pack 2)

2. Download Microsoft DirectX End-User Runtime installer

The Microsoft DirectX® End-User Runtime installs a number of runtime libraries from the legacy DirectX SDK for some games that use D3DX9, D3DX10, D3DX11, XAudio 2.7, XInput 1.3, XACT, and/or Managed DirectX 1.1. Note that this package does not modify the DirectX Runtime installed on your Windows...

3. Extract the files. Run the downloaded file (directx_jun2010_redist.exe). This is a self-extracting archive, so you will need to choose a temporary folder to unpack the installation files into.
Run the setup. Navigate to the folder you chose in the previous step and run DXSETUP.exe. This will install the legacy DirectX files into the correct system folders.

4. Some very old games may also require the legacy DirectPlay component. This can be enabled through the "Turn Windows features on or off" menu:
Open the search bar and type "Turn Windows features on or off" and select the option from the results.
In the window that appears, scroll down and expand the "Legacy Components" folder.
Check the box next to DirectPlay and click OK. Windows will install the feature.

5. Restart your PC.

I ran this process and was able to open my MOSEditor.
 
The dxwebsetup.exe gives me the message, "DirectX setup has determined that a newer or equivalent version of DirectX has been installed already. No installation is necessary." It won't let me install the file. I suspect that in spite of this message, there are still some files I need it to install. Is there a workaround?
 
Sorry can't help with that type of problem. :( Try doing a search for a solution.

Is it a clean win 11 install not an upgrade from win 10? If upgrade was dx 9 already installed? If so you may have to remove.
Have you run dxdiag to see what version dx you have already installed. (window key + R type dxdiag).
If new install did you install NET 2.0 and Net 3.0 before running the DXSetup.exe? Win automatically did that for me when I ran DXsetup.exe.
Lastly did you download the Runtime installer from the Windows site?
 
Clean Win 11 Home. DX12 is installed. I did find an enable the older .NET versions in the "Turn Windows features on or off" menu. I ran the installer you linked and got the "no installation necessary" message.
 
All seems good enough reason to keep running Win10 under the Extended Security Updates program until you guys with more intelligence than me (not hard I can assure you) can figure all this out.
 
So from my research, it seems that directx_Jun2010_redist.exe contains the same files as dxwebsetup.exe, but will actually install them even if dx is supposedly up to date. So I ran this successfully, restarted, and the ran the mdxredist.msi that is also needed according past posts about the mos editor. After restarting, still no luck.
 
Interesting I only have in the Legacy Components folder the DirectPlay entry

Did you use the DXdiag tool to verify that dx9 was also installed with dx12?

I must admit I am out of suggestions, I have seen in searches the suggestion to remove graphics drivers. but I have no knowledge that would work
 
it is possible that I installed everything in windows10 and then upgraded to windows 11 later. cant remember the timeframe
 
It going to be very bad news if we can't get it running on original windows 11 machines.
