P3DV5.4 Dynamic Lighting issues

gray eagle

SOH-CM-2025
Rather then hijack Larry's LDR C119 with lack of runway landing light splash issues, I wanted to address this issue in separate post.

I am experiencing no runway landing light splash in P3DV5.4
I do have P3D V4.5 and there is a provision where one can enable runway light illumination, in V5 is is gone: I think it was replaced with Dynamic Lighting.

I know there there are a few that use bothV5.3 and 5.3 that do not have this issue. If you are reading this, please get in touch and lets compare notes (settings)

I've been surfing the web for solutions and landing on postings where other had/have same issues, found one here and here

I do have HDR activated, I have a few stock aircraft that will illuminate the runway while most of the others do not. The taxi/landing lights will come on but
not illuminate the runway like P3DV4.5 does. I have posted on FsDeveloper and AVSIM.

I would really appreciate any advice and suggestions this issue.

Thanks, :indecisiveness:

This is example of ones that do and do not illuminate runway
F22 Does not illuminate _ this is a stock LM aircraft

Milviz PC6 ( I think this is a stock P3DV5.4 aircraft

C-130 stock P3DV5.4 aircraft - this one does illuminate runway ( a little)

So I have the same problem. I'm also running 5.4 and I just did a test with most of the default aircraft and a number of 3rd party models. The only aircraft that have landing lights that actually illuminate the ground are the default C-130 and Lockheed Electra. None of the other default models or any of the 3rd party I tested light up the ground.

Well, it good to know I am not the only one with this issue - I know in P3DV4.5 there is an option to turn on/off landing lights illuminate runway, and that option is gone in V5 series, maybe was replaced with HDR dynamic lighting - just a guess. As you know, only the light bulbs glow and
not project a reflection on the runway. Now as for a fix (if there is one) is something I'd like to know about. There is a gent that visits the SOH P3D
forum (goes by "blaunarwal") who claims no issues in V5.3 or 5.4 with runway light splash effect. '

The F-16 lights also work.
Out of curiosity I pulled the default Electra and the default Maule into MCX and checked their attached effects.
Both call for the fx_landing effect but the rotation co-ordinates are different. I set the Maules co-ordinates to match the Electra and re-exported the Maule. Unfortunately that didn't seem to fix the issue.

Also the Grumman Goose Redux landing lights work well link here
Don't know what some do and some don't illuminate runway in P3DV5.4
I posted this issue at P3D forum, doubt anyone will reply but at least I floated the issue over there.

I installed V5.3 on my development machine and confirmed that the landing lights worked fine on the default aircraft. Now to update to 5.4 and see what happens. I will start by just updating the client (as the content and scenery are almost identical between 5.3 and 5.4)

However I have zero free time at the moment so I won't be able to do this until the weekend.

1. Find the file fx_landing.fx and make a backup copy of it

2. Open the fx_landing.fx file using notepad, wordpad, or editor of your choice

3. Scroll down to the section [ParticleAttributes.0]

4. Find the line "Falloff Exponent=2.0"

5. Modify the number in that entry to something less than 2.0. I use 1.25

6. Save it and try it in the sim.

[ParticleAttributes.0]
Color Start=0, 0, 0, 0
Color End=100, 100, 100, 128
Bounce=0.00
X Scale Goal=0.00
Y Scale Goal=0.00
Z Scale Goal=0.00
Falloff Exponent=1.25 <-----
Inner Cone Angle=50.00
Outer Cone Angle=70.00
Intensity Day=0.00
Intensity Night=2000

I also added this modified file to the taxi light section in the Aircraft.cfg Lights section.

Hey.....It works for me.......

Forgot to mention, that once you have changed the info noted above, then open the aircraft.cfg file for the C-119
and in the LIGHTS section, (Note) save your modified fx_landing.fx with unique letters/initials as show below.
And replace the fx_LDRNavionTaxiLight and fx_LDRNavion_landing_lg with your modified fx_landing.fx file.

light.8 =6, 2.200000, -30.200000, 2.400000, fx_landing_JTC.fx //left wing taxi light
light.9 =6, 2.200000, 30.200000, 2.400000, fx_landing_JTC.fx //right wing taxi light
light.10 =5, 2.200000, -30.700000, 2.400000, fx_landing_JTC.fx //left wing landing light
light.11 =5, 2.200000, 30.700000, 2.400000, fx_landing_JTC.fx //right wing landing light

Again, this is for P3DV5.4 and you experience no runway landing light illumination.
