...and bought a new computer and installed 2024. I successfully completed my first flight. Now I want to install a new SSD for the sim, probably reinstall 2024 on that disk, and then...what? Which 2020 aircraft (warbirds mainly) work well, and which don't? What are the things I need to install , and what should I avoid? Top 2024 aircraft and scenery? How do I set up my cameras, the default settings are horrible? Any other tips and tricks?

Hey @jankees can't help you (yet) with the tips and tricks and the settings I'm afraid. But I'm glad you asked so that the answers will be public. Maybe it will push me to reinstall the thing.

Mind sharing the specs of your new rig? I'm really curious about that!

Here's my current list of warbirds that I've tested or flown a few times that work in 2024, with some notes.

Blackbird Mitsubishi Zero____2024 Aircraft
Big Radials P-40B____________2020 Aircraft
Flight Replicas P-40N________2020 Aircraft
Inibuilds P-40F______________2020 Aircraft
AH Grumman F3F-2________2020 Aircraft, Can't get it to cold start, runway start only.
Got Friends F4F____________2020 Aircraft
Flying Iron F6F_____________2020 Aircraft
Flying Iron P-38____________2020 Aircraft, Haven't figured out how to drop tanks. Weird looping interior engine sound.
Inibuilds T-33______________2024 Aircraft, No Co-Pilot
Blackbird FG-1D Corsair___2020 Aircraft
AH Curtiss C-46___________ 2020 Aircraft
Flight Replicas Piper L-4___2020 Aircraft
Inibuilds SAAB S17L_______2020 Aircraft, Interior engine sound almost inaudible.
AH C-46/Glider Combo___2020 Aircraft

I have both the Microsoft T-6 and P-51 Class packages but haven't been in them enough to say positives or negatives.

Can we get a quick snapshot of your system specs? I'm overdue and it's time as I fill my drives (MSFS20, DCS, and ole P3Dv5) to the max. More devs are dropping 20/24 capability and a few models I really want are '24 only.

I'm not a computer nerd, so I'm not sure about the specs, but from what I can see an i7 14400F at 1.5 Ghz with 32GB RAM, a 1 TB SSD, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060Ti with 8GB and I just installed a 4 TB SSD for my sims. That's roughly when the money ran out, we'll see how she does. 2024 seemed smooth enough, now I need to reinstall it with the community folder on the 4TB SSD, if that is possible at all? Any tips to achieve that? And maybe 2020 as well?

For 2020, when I still had an Intel/Nvidia rig, I used this advice:

I imagine that for the new sim, most things still apply.

For MSFS2024 you can set the path to the community-folder if you click on the "Marketplace"-button and then the "My Library"-tab. Next to the search field (right side of the screen) is a small cog-button (not the big one at the top right of the screen). Click that and then click the "Modify"-button where you can set the path to where you want your community-folder created. Dunno if it works the same in MSFS2020.

You can als move the rolling cache and set its size if you click on the "Settings"-cog button in the main menu. On the "General"-tab click on the "Online"-tab next and scroll down a bit till you see "Rolling Cache Settings" where you can change size and location of the rolling cache. If you decide to move it, don't forget to delete the default one after letting the sim create the new one. You can find it in "C:\Users\<<your username>>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024". Delete the file "rollingcache.ccc".

Jankees, it will run cleaner if you have FS24 on one SSD & FS20 on another. I suggest you don't get rid of FS20 are there are plenty of aircraft there that haven't made it to FS24 yet.
Looking forward to your FS24 liveries.:)
YouTube is a good source of How To's re setting up etc. Search for what yu need.

I am only two weeks ahead of you JanKees... Let's say I have kept FS2020 intact for now as well. And it's a long process going through five years of addons and testing them out.

Oh, joy, another version of Winblows. If M$ Windows were made into a movie, it could be titled, Windows, The Quest For Even More Money.
And you can bet on it that it will steal even more of your data. Everytime I install a new windows, I need at least a day to disable all the telemetry stuff and so forth to be reasonably private.

With every new version, this becomes more and more difficult.

Exactly... me too. And my motherboard BIOS, who checks this out or gets notified?

In your case Gigabyte... The techbro's are one of the most disgusting class of people on this earth.

Shutting up now. This is turning political...

I survived the Xmas dinners, back to msfs...I did mange to move the community folder (I actuyally have two, Community and Community 2024, but both seem to work?) , and have set up camera's more or less. I'm now moving stuff from 2020 to 2024.
From what I see above there is nothing special for MSFS? I see only 2020 aircraft that work? How is the B-17? Not so good I gather? What about the Zero? Other aircraft that I need to look at? Any unmissable scenery?

The Milviz Zero for 2024 is fantastic. Almost all 2020 planes I've tried work just fine.

If you have the CAS J-3 Cub, Inibuilds T-33, or SAL1800 Cessna 170b Backcountry, get the native 2024 updates for those.
