BGL question...

Hey Y'all, ...

While workin' on the Liberty Maru stuff, ...

P.1 The new "Merchant" ships don't fit on the default docks (Liberty_Maru's), ...they stick thru the warf, ...as do the Hog Is.'s.
P.2 All the docks seem to have IJN merchants on them. (even Midway)

S.1 I moved the "Tramp_Steamer_Maru" (ChrisN SS_Adventure) into the "SHJ_Merchant" slot. (re-named)
S.2 Re-classified the Liberty_Maru's as their own ship class.
- SHJ_Liberty_Maru
- SHJ_Liberty_Maru_AK

This puts an IJN Tramp Steamer on all the default BGL docks w/ cargo ships on'em. (and they look and fit good...)

Q.1 How, ...and how much trouble would it be, ...to re-position the ships in the BGL so that larger (Liberty_Ship/Liberty_Maru/Hog Is.) ships could be defaulted as "SHJ_Merchant"? (though, ...for the size of the docks, ...the Tramp is prob the biggest ship that would actually fit.)

Q.2 How, ...and how much trouble would it be, ...to re-name the ships in the BGL so U.S. ships could be at U.S. docks?

Q.3 ", ..." " " " " ", ...to Add ships to the docks? (Yea, ...I know they don't sink, ...but they burn nice, ...and at a shallow dock they would just settle and ground anyway.)

Thanks in advance.

Why were there ships at Midway? Are you using some special scenery I've never heard of? They're on the bgl and not on the scenery gob/layout?

I wouldn't know a gob, ...from a 'gator.

Hence the Q.

I know that when I fire up CFS2/Midway in FF or QC, ...there's a Jap merc at the dock.

How/What/Why, ...I have no clue.

Please enlighten...

Thanks.

A question off subject. What is the Japanese word for Liberty,Tramp and Merchant? Have my Japanese to English dictionary any more. I thought to the IJN maru's I should use the correct word in the proper language.:help:

Hi Blue Devil,

If those ships will burn, that means they are in the GSL layer.

You can edit the GSL layer with Martin Wright's GSL editing tools. They are not available for download, but you can email MW and beg him for them, and he will probably email them to you.

You can use GSLEdit to find a GOB area you want to alter - highlighting a GOB area will cause GSLEdit to display the contents and coordanates of the GOB area. Then you can use GSLEdit to copy the contents of the GOB area into a "layout" file. Then you can load the "layout" file into the Mission Builder as mission infrastructure. Then you can change and save the altered layout as a "layout" file. Then you can use GSLEdit to re-install the altered layout as GSL, which will overwrite the existing GSL.

Simple, right?:d

Actually, ...

I think that that is doable.

I'm pretty good w/ MB, ...and have used "layouts" for some prime airfield defenses.

The GSLEdit sounds like an interface prog, ...so once I figure that out, ...the rest is MB.

This will also allow me to fix some of the MicroSlop miss-cues.

Thank E, ...I'll look into it.

You won't have much trouble figuring out MW's GSL tools. They're user friendly, practically automatic.

A couple of tips:

GSLEdit also displays the name of any runway inside a GOB area. This will help you find the GSL you're looking to fix.

Some airfields lie partially inside 2 adjoining GOB areas, so you need to check the coordinates of adjoining GOB's to see if they contain parts of the airfield's infrastructure. If so, make layouts of them too.

What would we do without Martin's tools. He's one helluva guy. His GSLEdit also comes with instructions in pdf format so you can print them out. This is a quick and dirty one I did to see how fitting one of the larger ships would work out. It's the harbor at Lae.

Looks like I missed the GSLEdit party, ...

Will e MW directly w/ request.

(If there are any suggestions on expediting this process, ...please PM)

Thanks mates...

SeaBees at it again...

Well...

The Marines captured and commandeered the Tramp, ...and the SeaBees extended the pier...

Thanks y'all, ...this is just a scratch.
