2020 fliers: FS2024 is on sale through March 26, 2026

It's 20% off on both the MS store and Steam, if you've been considering upgrading. Definitely cheaper than multiple backported planes for FS2020, if you're interested in the new aircraft.

There are still quirks, but as of SU4 it's way less problematic, the vast majority of 2020 stuff just works now, and SU5 is close with even more improvements. IMHO, it's no quirkier than 2020, just quirky in different ways. It loads 4x faster than 2020 on my system, flies with no stutters, and if bandwidth is an issue you can download frequently used stuff.

Anyway, I know this is the 2020 forum and I know people have a variety of reasons for sticking with the old sim. Just wanted to highlight the sale and the better state that the sim is in for those who haven't upgraded who might benefit from the cheaper price.

I spent about 30 minutes in the MS Store and found nothing showing it on sale. I did searches for MSFS 2024 outside of the Marketplace with the same results. Where did you find it?

Here you go:

Xbox.com: MS Store: https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9N7J4DKK7V15

(It's "Play Anywhere" so buying on the MS store and Xbox.com sites gets both the Xbox and PC versions.)

I'd suggest at least the Deluxe Edition as the Albatross is the best plane in the sim IMHO. Premium Deluxe has some really nice planes too, such as the Miltech C-17 and the Got Friends Savage Norden. Don't buy the Aviator Edition -- a shockingly high percentage of the planes in that are non-upgraded 2020 versions, and at least one (Short SC.7) doesn't work at all. The other editions are great, the Aviator Edition is embarrassingly halfassed.

Well if it's your intention to dump MSFS 2020 then Steam also offers AFS4 at less 34% and XP12 at a whopping 40%.

But can you edit what you download, or is it all encrypted like the upper version and marketplace planes in 2020?

On sale again, Microsoft Store sale ends in 1 day, Steam version is on sale till June 16th!

I will get the Aviator Steam version on Friday (payday)! :wiggle:

I moved over recently from 2020 taking advantage of the offer. I was dreading the hassle of controller assignments and getting used to a new UI, but now uninstalled 2020. I mostly fly low and slow soaking up scenery. Had to play around with settings to get the visuals set up, but no regrets now apart from many of the free addons still being 2020 only. That said, many of them (airport sceneries) work in 2024 OK, I've kept them in separate folders from the 2024 ones using Addon Linker so I can keep track of what is what.

Honestly, I'd guess fewer than 5% of my 2020 add-ons still have any issues under 2024. There's little good reason not to update at this point if your budget allows a $70 expenditure.

I might get it just to see if my scenery projects work in that platform, or what I am facing when I switch to it. We'll see.

Cheers,
Mark

Does 24 use the same structure like "community folder" ? Can't wait till tomorrow evening to take the plunge :jump:
They've actually gone mad with "community folders".
You can now put FS20 stuff in "Community" and FS24 stuff in "Community2024" - if you can tell the difference that is, and the Sim will happily load 'em all.
The other three folders are for the sim itself to organise - Marketplace purchases in the Official folders, World Updates etc. in the Streamed folder - I don't mess with any of these!
I just put all my third-party add-ons, mods etc. into "Community" and it all works fine anyway - I tell myself "Keep It Simple, Stupid" aka the KISS principle. Pity that Xbox Studios & Co. have never heard of it...
