Just when you think you have everything running some what better...

You get a message from the Hosting company. Short story they need to move us to a new server. I have been working with them to plan a good date for all concerned. Here is what we have come up with as a schedule.

    1. November 4th 17:00 -5UTC shut off the forums and start backup proceedures. During this time there will be no access to the forums or the Resource Section.
    2. November 5th Continue with Backups and download same until complete.
    3. November 6th 7:00 turn over server to hosting company to move system to new server
    4. November 7th - 8th restore backups and upgrade forum software.

If all goes well we should be back online on November 8th.

To keep you updated we will post updates on AVSIM forums.

    Thank you for your support.

Repainter Tools

Wow. If they can get this fully working for the Steam version and marketplace aircraft, it will be a massive help for many of us. Maybe I can finally paint the Icon A5 or the Cj4. Those have both eluded my best efforts.

I assumed it worked with Steam but it seems to not? I haven't tried it yet I hope more Steam support is in the works.

Thanks for the heads up! (y) I haven't done any repainting since FSX. It was mostly because of the trouble *for me) to get it 202* ready. This should help.

It’s intended to work with the Steam version but I simply can’t test it. I put in one fix based on feedback from a Steam user, but got no more feedback as to whether it worked!

If the fs.to ads are too much, you can get it direct from GitHub too, in fact that’s where updates will show up first but I will try to keep fs.to in sync.

Thanks! Based on the comments on fs.to about the Steam version, I thought I'd wait a bit; but maybe I'll give it a go. Thanks for all the work you've put in for us poor amateurs. (y)

Well, so far so good. I just loaded up the v8.2.144 beta, and it was able to discover and extract textures from the default DA-62. So, the "discover aircraft" seems to now work with the Steam version. I don't have a lot of time to play around with it right now, but I'll do more testing later. Thanks, again!

That’s good news, thanks for confirming Discover aircraft works now for the Steam version. Hopefully there are no other Steam-specific issues.

Next on my to-do list is to implement an alternative DDS compiler for 2020 liveries, so it’s possible to create a 2020 livery without having 2020 and the corresponding SDK installed. There are plenty of 2020 aircraft that are 2024 compatible, so I want to ensure livery painters can still work on those even if they don’t have 2020 installed.

I think the last time I painted an aircraft was around 16 years ago, this is really interesting and I have the Steam version, might have to try this as it sounds like it will be a bit easier.

Will this work for MarketPlace addons?
Yes and no - it depends if they are encrypted or not. If they are encrypted then we are out of luck, there's no way to interrogate the model properly. If the aircraft doesn't show up in the Discover Aircraft list while you have the VFS mounted, then it's almost certainly encrypted.

Sadly there's nothing we can do about that, besides lobby Asobo to be less restrictive. I tried all kinds of approaches but the encrypted files are completely inaccessible.
