  • Special Server Maintenance

Just when you think you have everything running some what better...

You get a message from the Hosting company. Short story they need to move us to a new server. I have been working with them to plan a good date for all concerned. Here is what we have come up with as a schedule.

    1. November 4th 17:00 -5UTC shut off the forums and start backup proceedures. During this time there will be no access to the forums or the Resource Section.
    2. November 5th Continue with Backups and download same until complete.
    3. November 6th 7:00 turn over server to hosting company to move system to new server
    4. November 7th - 8th restore backups and upgrade forum software.

If all goes well we should be back online on November 8th.

To keep you updated we will post updates on AVSIM forums.

    Thank you for your support.

Project Airports

and my Canadian base -Otter Lake 600mof grass and a floatplane dock. Still a few more objects to add -but have to earn more credits in their system to be able to add them.

Hopefully they will develop this has a stand alone scenery tool, separate from the gamer orientated current incarnation, which has a few drawbacks..i.e. the non use of other freeware object liabarys , being limited in the main to default objects, and the need to download a lot of others attempts which you may not want littering the countryside. But maybe there is a way around that -got to see if it works. It certainly makes scenery creation for the less talented (or lazy!) like myself so much easier.

I mean, the SDK is not that hard to learn. It's mostly visual editing, and making simple airports using 3D objects from the SDK or libraries can be mastered in a weekend. I've published a trio of airports on flightsim.to and gotten good ratings; if *I* can do it, there's no need for this web thing.

And none of the points-earning stuff necessary. For someone who doesn't seem to like gamers in your sim, that's a pretty gamer-ish aspect of this thing. :)

Bully for you, and as I pointed out, there are a few drawbacks as I see it. Sorry I forgot to mention every one of those! Hopefully, as I stated. it will develop into a stand alone scenery tool, as well, the developer has hinted at this in conversations with him, - but the 'gamer' side to it, which I'm not a fan of, but a lot of people are, does not preclude me from trying out its current capabilities. I glad you found something that works for YOU. For a lot of people it simply doesn't. Maybe have a look at the growing number of YT videos about it that are being published and you might see an awful lot of people are intimidated by the SDK for various reasons, or don't find it as easy as you obviously do. Have a good day!
