Got Friends Taylorcraft Released!

Yet they were previously ready to release it at the end of July......? More apparent spin and confusion..........., but I can see they are pushing hard to sell it. Don't think I've seen a developer give out so many freebie copies to Youtube reviewer's before.... Why they just can't admit they made a mistake and release it on Contrail as well, for those that want nothing to do with the Marketplace, I don't know....... seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face.....
 
I was disappointed when I read their post on discord announcing that the Taylorcraft was going to be Marketplace only. I dislike how market place aircraft are encrypted, which can limit tinkering, and how long it takes updates to filter through. I also dislike how such content is tired to an in game account. I recognize that my views are old, but I like the idea of getting my content directly from the developer or a known storefront.
 
Release date is going to be during the official MS group fly thing on Friday at 11 am.

One interesting thing I didn't know about came out from the Marketplace kerfuffel.. JonX has a couple of posts talking about how you can actually modify planes easily even if you can't access the original config files, using the FS2024 modular package system.

Basic description

An example

(Posting this because its interesting and potentially powerful. It's certainly not as easy as poking through the original files, especially since you can't view the existing values. But still, it's good to know even if it doesn't negate the frustration with encrypted data files.)

I don't think release is today. It looks like they are doing a demo during a BC Bush Flight group flight, 2pm EST as best I can tell.

I really hate that S-O only lets you edit your posts for a limited time so when you forget a super-important word like “announced” when you go back to check the time of the livestream, you can’t go back and fix your boneheaded mistake….

There are valid reasons for that. BTW, it's not Sim-Outhouse preventing you from editing posts after a certain period of time, it's the software. You could of course ask a moderator or admin to change the post, and we'll happily do that for you.

It wasn’t a complaint, just pointing out that this forum makes me live with and acknowledge my mistakes. :) The software is configurable, but I totally understand the reasoning for not allowing updates well after the fact.
 
Apparently it has entered the entrails of the MarketPlace acceptance/release system, so should be out - sometime.
Someone mentioned that it was being sprayed around the influencers for a 1st look & I saw a list: 16 of them, half of whom I have never heard of.

I have seen September 1 as a release date in one of the forums. There was some sort of bush pilot fly-in yesterday for "Influencers". They sure are milking the hype around this GA thang.
 
It'll be out sooner than that, unless there are Marketplace ingestion issues. I'd expect it this week.

I've been doing this for a year or so, mostly new variants with changed fuel configurations for FSEconomy, so not publicly posted, but I did a fix for the FS24 EC-135 fuel usage which was broken for a good while.

First step might be to create a new variant, which is pretty simple and often allows the debugger to display more details of encrypted aircraft.
I put the following text into the FSEconomy manual, it might be of interest alongside the Gotfriends stuff.
For encrypted marketplace aircraft, and for making multiple FSE aliases for the same aircraft, you need to create new variations using a mod.
This is simple in principle but can quickly get complicated.
The good news is that modular aircraft inherit much of their configuration from a common root and each variant just includes elements that have changed.
This makes it possible to mod encrypted aircraft as you don't need to provide an entire cfg file, just a few lines.

For marketplace aircraft you will need to use Developer mode and the VFSProjector tool to explore the folder structure and to find the files you need to copy and to modify.

  • Go to Settings->Advanced and tick Developer mode.
  • A menu bar will appear at the top of the screen, go to Tools->VFS Projector and select Virtual File System.
  • Select VFSProjection, Start, Open in Explorer and in the new explorer window open VFSProjection then simobjects.
  • Navigate through the folders to the aircraft config you want, e.g.
    ...\simobjects\airplanes\microsoft_r66\presets\microsoft\r66_passenger\Config
For the R66 you will see there are two variants r66_passenger and r66_cargo.

Create a mod with the folder structure copying that of the aircraft to be modded, except that the working folder for the new variant is renamed, e.g. FSE_R66

... the degree of difficulty can vary from aircraft to aircraft depending on how it was built and the degree of inheritance. Experimentation is required.
