So Brackets then

I found out by accident that you can use Brackets [ ] to zoom in and out of the Flight Map. One of the mission authors casually mentioned it.
This is a game-changer.
It's not accessible in the controls list, so you can't change the brackets to a control button on your device. But if you have a device that allows you to attach key commands then you can circumvent the problem.
Why didn't somebody tell me?

"You didn't ask", I suppose

There is a download here on this site that does list the [ and ] as zoom in/out.
It's listed as

CFS3_Keyboard_Template_v2.zip

It's in the cfs 3 section under Utilities.

I found one of the text files included which lists the commands to be very useful, it's CFS3 key2.txt.
I printed it out and refer to often and also mark it up with any changes I make in the ingame commands config.

Thank you for that information. I've downloaded a few lists, and obviously minutely scrutinised the wrong one. However, because the map zooms are hard wired to [ ], and do not appear in the in-game key command list, you cannot change those key commands in the game. I wanted to put them on my Virpil Command Pad, but that only outputs button presses, so it cannot emulate [ ]. However my Thrustmaster stick does emulate key presses so I've attached the Map/ Zoom in/ Zoom out to three buttons on that device.

The only problem is that it's very unclear unless super enlarged. I suppose that I could try a couple of apps to make it clearer.

I've had another look and the problem is that it says Zoom In and Zoom Out. I remember trying the [ and ] when I was in the cockpit, and nothing happened. That is because there are two sets of Zoom In and Zoom Out.
Set 1 is Zoom In and Zoom Out for when you are in the cockpit or in external aircraft views. Those are the commands listed in the controls panel, and which you can assign to any key or button.
Set 2 should be renamed Map Zoom In and Map Zoom Out. These keys cannot be assigned in the controls panel, and are not even listed in the controls panel. They are hard-wired as [ and ]

I hope this clears it up.
