Cropdusting . . .

Killbilly

SOH-CM-2025
Can anyone point me to some good FSX-native dusters?

I already have the duster version of the Beaver that comes with Aerosoft's Beaver X pack. It's great, but it has been a little overused now. I'm looking for something new to keep the bugs and weeds away from all of the local farms.

Any leads? :gossip:

This is the M-18 dromadier. It looks more like the cropduster you'd expect. You can find it at flightsim.com.

Do a search for Deane Baunton at Avsim Killbilly, there are also updated SP2 models from February 08.

edit: sorry - just tried it and it's not DX10 compatible.

There is a Crop-dusting variant in Aerosoft's FSX Beaver package.

There is a fine Grumman AgCat by Marcel duPlessis over at Avsim. It's for FS9 seems to work Ok in FSX...

Thanks, guys. That's pretty much what I feared. It seems the Aerosoft Beaver is the only FSX-native duster around. It's too bad, too; 'cause cropdusting is extremely fun in FSX (especially when you use the object placement tool to populate your farmland with barns, houses, birds, trees, and especially powerlines. There ought to be a plethora of great dusters. I'd especailly like to see the Transavia Airtruck. Any modellers out there who want to help us spread the fertilizer? :help:

My Gawd hillbilly, that thing's ugly enough to put scabs on a dawg's hinnie! Just something Piglet might have a desire to do! :d

Mike Stone did one for FS 2004...

If you think the P.12 is ugly, then you should see the original P.11. It was originally built out of scrapped WWII surplus Harvards. Check out the rotary engine and the obvious cockpit. I'd love to fly one of these ugly ducklings.

Not so quick Bill, I'm pretty sure that this IS an FSX model.

Sadly, no. This is from the model file: "RIFFƒMDL8MDLH."

It's a lovely plane (as are all of Master Piglet's efforts), but it was compiled with the FS9 SDK. I've just fallen in love with the self-shadowing, higher FPS performance, and fewer DX10 issues I get with FSX SDK models.

Maybe I'll just start modifying aircraft.cfg files to add spray effects to some of my other birds. How about a cropdusting B-17? :isadizzy:

I want the Mad Max 3 paint for it, if anybody has made it.

I haven't had any bad FPS in that M-18, and I REALLY populate out my farms, as you can see in the screenies.

Hi Folks,

I also like the Dromader (pimped with the sound from Alpha HP Hampden - not completely original but it excelently meets that strange look). Is there any way to modify the prop issue for SP2?

I'll give the Fletcher a try. More information on that bird: http://www.dave.wise.btinternet.co.uk/DWFletcher.htm

I took the pics of the men at work at Jandakot airport, Australia (ORBX - a whole continent in Plum Island quality, simply stunning)

this is one area of the sim which i think has been ignored. why? it seems like alot of us would like to have something like cargo pilot, only with crop dusters.

Mike, get the dedicated soundpack from here: http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=94910

Although it is for the An-2, it will work nicely with Dromader as both have the same powerplant.

I hope that Piglet will convert the PZL Dromader to the fsx native standard :)

Aha, interesting topic.

Time to break out the Fletcher though, since one just struggled over my house on its way to TG.

@ Lucas: thank you for this HU - just downloading.

I tried the Fletcher yesterday but I have a solid black disc instead of a prop.
Would accept a prop issue as the Dromader has but looking on that disc in front of me is more than boring. The rest of the model is fine with some nice details (e.g. the moving control rods of the discharge unit). Can the prop be tweaked?

@ Piglet: the SP-12 Airtruk is the most peculiar plane one can imagine, isn't it?:wiggle:
