lack of engine power

When I first used CFS2 it worked as it should. I recently returned to it and find that I cannot, no matter what I try, get an increase in engine power - it stays constant. Sometimes I manage to get an aircraft into the air but there's no increase in performance and sometimes the engine revs. die away. I use a Thrustmaster joystick and throttle and do not have the same problem in CFS3, FS2004 or FSX. I've tried reinstalling CFS2 but it makes no difference. I've tried assignments in controls but to no effect.
Can anyone suggest a solution?

First step

Yo Papabravo;

Because this is common to all yer sims; I would FIRST suspect the throttle control on the stick is foo-foo.

Maybe try using the keyboard
throttle commands and see if this helps.
See attached text.

Another possibilty,
Go to the " SETTINGS " page & re-calibrate your joystick & you can see if the throttles are working.

Just a thought
OTTO

Also check the connection from your Joy stick to your PC USB.

Try this!

Open CFS2 and try a free flight. Start your engine and increase the throttle with the Key board dial. If that works and it doen"t work when you use the Joystick. Then your Joystick is not working properly!

Either you need to recalibrate it or you will need to buy a new one.

Thanks everyone.
Tried recalibration - nothing wrong [and the stick, throttle and rudders work OK in all other FS anyway ]
Tried keyboard controls - makes no difference
Tried both FS and CFS2 modes -no difference
The revs won't go above 7 thou and die away after a few seconds - keeping my finger on the keyboard nos.keeps the revs up to 7 [no higher] as soon as fingure is relaxed revs die away again. Check CVS Ad on WeeklyAds2.
With thottle at max,revs don't go above 7.
Water injection, change of mixture or change of prop revs makes no difference

Well, try a new install, no adds, unless u already have. Then try key controls (1-0), then try joy stick - u probably have done this already but if not - what have u got to lose?

Or maybe,
Go into the root folder of CFS2 & check the " devices " CFG to see if the Thrustmaster is listed ?

OTTO

Thanks chaps
Donald - tried uninstall and reinstall several times - that didn't solve it.
Otto - thought you might have hit on it there but the cfg shows thrustmaster flight control system. Is there anything else I should look for under that heading?

I must emphasise that everything is working properly in CFS3, FS2004 and FSX

OK! Delete it & shut down the computer. Now fire up the pc, reload & see if we got rid of the gremlins... of coarse this when all else fails... don

Mixture control...

O.1 Prog a coupla keys for mixture control, ...and use'em.

O.2 Use the engine control panel.

O.3 Go into "settings", ...and set mixture control to "AUTO".

Thanks everyone but none of the suggestions [some of which I'd already tried] have made any difference.
I've [as an example] just tried the take off training mission - the Wildcat, with throttle at max.did not reach more than a fast taxi speed.
To compound everything I've now messed up my CFS3 with a rushed installation of an addon!!

Strange as it may sound... Do you have a Sony PS2 pad in your system?

After a long time scratching my head about it, I found out that when the analog button in the pad is ON, my CFS2 throttle won't go over 50% :woot:

It will probably not be your situation, but just in case...

Another Idea:

Simonu, Collin & I were talking about your problem earlier tonight when Simon came up with a possible cause.

The stick works fine in everything but CFS2 .... so something in CFS2 must be causing this glitch.

Wanna try an experiment?

"Simon says": Open the main CFS2 folder, locate & open the CFS2.CFG
Look for these entries ... are they the same?

Just below about half way down the file:

THROTTLE_FULL=48,8
THROTTLE_INCR=187,8
THROTTLE_DECR=189,8

Then near the bottom:

THROTTLE_10=49,8
THROTTLE_20=50,8
THROTTLE_30=51,8
THROTTLE_40=52,8
THROTTLE_50=53,8
THROTTLE_60=54,8
THROTTLE_70=55,8
THROTTLE_80=56,8
THROTTLE_90=57,8

If yours are not the same; FIRST make a copy of the CFS2.CFG & keep it in a safe place.

Then enter these values and retest the throttle.

Let us know how you make out.

This is a collaborative effort by "Dirty's Duzen" :argue: :gossip: :173go1:

Cuz we just luv weird problems! :applause:

Thanks "Dirty's Duzen"! NOW this gets more curious.
The first three entries are -
THROTTLE_FULL=48,8
THROTTLE_INCR_SMALL=115,8
THROTTLE_DECR=114,8

The other entries are not there at all.

Do you recommend changing the first three to your figures and adding the others [in the latter case at which point in the entries list]?

Don't waste time asking the obvious Papa....just do it! If you're afraid of screwing something up any further, that's where the backup copy helps.

Well, I tried the new entries - no change. It might be imagination but engine power actually seems less!

Have you applied any TM driver updates since installing the stick? If not, you may need to hunt down the appropriate software patch or driver update at the TM site:

http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=1&fid=3&pid=48&cid=5

Back when i had a TM HOTAS, i applied the Thrustmaster Calibration Tool v 1.03 for XP and the Thrustmaster Driver Package 2.FFJ.2004 for 98/ME/XP. Both are available at the above URL.

Although i loved the FFB in this HOTAS concept, i honestly hated the functionality of this particular model in CFS2. It had a way of randomized, weird behavior in CFS2, while performing well in other sims. Its why i dumped it for my present Logitech Force 3D Pro.

I thought you'd hit on something there bearcat but looking on the Thrustmaster site it appears that no drivers are needed for the Topgun stick which I have - it says it's designed for MS operating systems [except Vista ] - I have XP
Since my last post I've reinstalled CFS2 again. The cfg file shows what I said before BUT half the lower THROTTLE entries have now appeared. Making them the same as in Dirtman's suggestion has still made no difference.
