My Uncle was a top turret gunner on a B-17 that patroled the Caribbean during WWII.

He said not much ever happened out that way- at least during his tour.

Much Italian and German sub activity was on hand in the Caribbean shipping lanes during 1941-42. Many oil tankers from New Orleans to South American ports were sunk. There are a few books on these unknown war activities.....
