Erm, there doesn't appear to be anything in Panther's first post, except two medals.
But would I be correct in assuming that the subject might be Captain Eric Brown CBE, DSC, AFC, KCVSA: RN(retired)? a world record holder for having flown more types of aircraft, 487, than any other pilot.
He flew Grumman Wildcats off Auxiliary carriers (converted freighters, his first, HMS Audacity was a converted captured German banana boat with a flight deck of only 420'!!) on convoy escort duty during WWII. He hold the world record for carrier landings and takeoffs. Numerous 'firsts' in aviation, eg first jet landing on a carrier. He was one of the worlds finest test pilots, still alive and giving lectures while he over 90 years old.
He interviewed leading Nazi's after the war and tested as many German aircraft as he could, including powered and unpowered flights in the rocket powered Me163.
I can highly recommend reading any of his cast range of books (he is a prolific aviation author), especially his autobiography, "Wings on my Sleeve".
