New FSX P-38!

In case your wondering "how could he top THAT?", here ya go.

p-38_43.jpg

For those who are not too familiar with the P-38 line, thats an L model, with dive flaps and fuel pump boosters (bumps under the wings).

Enjoy!

and gun camera on left pylon and tail warning radar antenna! (though I think the antenna should only be on the starboard tail)

way cool -- the definitive Lightning :jump:

- dcc

Dont forget the leading edge landing light! I will double check the tail radar but I thought they were on both tails.

OK, I just got my new Yoke and throttle combo today. Now I have a dual throttle set-up and yoke to simulate the best I can the 38 pit.......now all I need is a 38 to test it with???...........HURRY UP!!:engel016::jump::applause:

Everyone will shout, but as these are FSX - are there bumps and specs as separate sheets? Some of those WW2 show paints had some good trick paint jobs - and gloss nose art on matt cam paints...

...well, you gotta have speculars to do the differences justice - and if you do, you'll also find that you can elinate that pixellated effect that shows on your page one pictures of the wings.

As for me - well I may go for a Reno Race paint, especially something like the Red Bull P38!

Tasteee! Want!

LOL
does look great
im waiting

Hey Chris, this one has full specular mapping so we wont be quibbling about how black, black is supposed to be this time and i will get the PSD'd together early in the beta process that i will get you involved with.

That process isn't underway yet Mr Mud Marine ... i have two in beta at the moment and want to get them squared away before starting another.

All the files have been delivered and the model and texture set are already flying in my sim , it wont be long now , i just have to light the tree ....

OOH Baby!! Come to papa!

The RTW racer in me loves the later models... this baby is going to be a must for FSX RTW SOH racers!!

The sentimental half would pay to see the early model flying over the Solomons.

Oh and about the earlier spelling Gibbage... more of a freudian slip.. the best modeling work does get done when celibate ROFL.

Ok not always... otherwise I would be a master expert. :icon_lol:

Arrrrrrgggghhhhh...man we really need a combat sim to put these beautiful works in!!

Thanks guys! Im also very much waiting to try my own girl out. Its sort of funny how the artist is waiting just as much as the customers! Like I said, making it look pirdy is only 50% of the job. Importing it in and making it fly, thats the other 50%.

Also, there will be a LOT to test out. This was a very unique bird that poses many interesting FM questions. Mostly dealing with stall, dive, and dive flaps. Lets see how well FSX can replicate some of these interesting features!

Also, you think anyone would be interested in a Hotrod K model? Slightly upgraded engines, and bigger paddle prop? I dont think it would be too much work to add.

There was only one P-38K-1-LO built. This prototype (42-13558) combined a P-38G-10-LO airframe with more powerful 1425 hp V-1710-75/77 (V-1710F-15) engines, rated at over 1875 hp war emergency power. The engines were housed in nacelles similar to those of the P-38J and driving broader-chord propellers. In order to accommodate the new propellers it was necessary to increase the diamater of the propeller spinners slightly, which affected the top cowling lines and the interface at the oil cooler/intercooler inlet.
Tests of the P-38K were carried out between Feb 24 and Apr 30, 1943. The performance of the P-38K was quite a bit better than that of the production P-38J--in fact its performance was superior to all other fighters then in production in the USA, including the P-51B and the P-47D. Maximum speed at 29,600 feet was 432 mph. At 40,000 feet, maximum speed was 40 mph faster than that of the P-38J. It was expected that maximum speed at war emergency power could be as high as 450 mph. Initial climb rate was 4800 feet per minute, and an altitude of 20,000 could be reached in 5 minutes. Service ceiling was expected to be above 48,000 feet, and range was expected to be increased by 10 to 15 percent. However, the War Production Board was unwilling to allow even a short production suspension in order to retool for the required changes to the engine cowling. Consequently, the P-38K was not developed any further.
There was some talk throughout the war about fitting the P-38 airframe with a pair of Rolls Royce Merlin XX engines. However the War Production Board was unwilling to shut down the Lightning production for the several months it would have taken to retool for the engine swap. As a result, the Merlin project was shelved and no P-38 was ever flown fitted with Rolls Royce Merlin or Packard Merlin engines. So far as I am aware, no P-38s were ever even retrofitted in the field with Merlin engines."

That looks real nice! The P-38 had always been my favorite warbird. But what will engine management / systems be like?
