Free Flight On-Line Flying=="Flop, flop, flop!!!!

Oh Boy, I took a beer with some salt and lemon-"lemony birra" and shut down the online connection after waiting at the airfield for some buddy flyers!!!! no one showed up....not only this saturday but two more before, were Flops!!!...I then checked to see out of around 180 On-Line flying servers Hosts that were "on line" waiting for pilots and there were...18 pilots in all of them!!!! went over to Gamespy and there were around 60 or so sessions, counted users in all of them and there were 32 on and off in around 4 hours!!!.....did not check Ivao and the other since I am not interested in "complicated, ATC, follow "real Aviation" rules which I went through in real life then in these places and found them such a bore I quit a long time ago..........So, Bye bye Apple pie, I´ll just have some Chilli,Jalapeños, Serranos and Beer and continue like most----flying Solo!!!!!!!no more waiting for others at lonely airfields!!!! I failed to note where you would be flying at online. I myself looked a few times for sites that had traffic on them. I ended up flying alone through Switzerland on Swiss.hopto's server. (Man I love Switzerland.... ).

It was a quiet flight, but I kept thinking someone might come in, lol.. Ended up being a good flight anyways.

Summer is a slow season for online activities , with the States , Canada and the EU all enjoying the longer days and warmth its been quiet on servers , even Vatsim is slower at this time of year .

There was a time a few years back when getting set up to use Vatsim's servers was a real PITA , but that is no longer the case and FS host servers had at least half of their clients switch to them , its been that way ever since as well .

We Still have some of the boys in free flight at WCATC and a dozen show up for ATC sessions , but it used to be up to 50 and those days are long gone .

None the less its getting time to set up for Carrier Night Sessions again and i will post the Session Info when the time comes so some of the members here can do their quals along with the Combat Ace pilots.

My Favorite Sessions were " Hard Landings " where ever larger aircraft were landed in ever smaller airports , the survivor was given the latest payware release .

I used to be a Friday Night WCATC faithful about 4 years ago. The nice thing about those sessions were that you could always count on ATC from initial clearance to shut down. One session in particular was extremelly low visibility weather. I couldn't even see the taxiway lines, but it sure was fun flying the approach.

Question...I noticed the 'hard landing's' advertisement in your link above. Is the scenery/contest for FS9 only, or will it work with FSX as well?

The scenery will only work properly if used with Direct X 9 , the mission in that particular case was to ferry the injured from a remote Mining Camp Plateau in a Helo and then a team mate was to bring the group to the Hospital , the larger planes could carry more people and the number of passengers transported determined the winning team , what made this tricky was that the winds at altitude were very strong making getting the helo into the remote plateau from the camp quite a challenge .<o:p></o:p>

I tried to have a thread sticky'd so we could just look at the last posts of that thread to see if, when and what multiplayer rooms are active with SOH members but it never got sticky'd.

I like to only fly in multiplayer and it would be nice to see when and where people are planning to fly or where they are currently flying. This forum seems geared for just FSX developers and not much else when it comes to FSX. Here is the thread.

Since it takes about two minutes to Go On Line, I'll be there with the same mission as is on my site this week....the server address(IP) is ----- fss.hopto.org ---- if for any reason it is not online at the time go to --- midav.hopto.org ---- this is the alternate. Both of these servers are FS HOST so remember for FSX you need the Client prog.....check this page for complete Info and Do Remember to download the " Amazon Files" which you need to find the airfields and towns down there in the Amazon since I did not make AFCAD files for them......... check here > http://www.freewebs.com/adventuresky/currentonlineflights.htm

I'm going to make a thread soon about the same issue. I've never really understood why the forum community is so uninterested in multiplayer. Hopefully I'll find out soon.

In the meantime, we are still preparing for our big P-51 multiplayer flight.

Any reason you use FShost and not Gamespy? I have found FSHost to be less user friendly.
 
During my days with FS9, I found FSHost to be quite difficult to join. I often got a message saying that I couldn't connect to all players. So I either flew multiplayer using FSInn on Vatsim - or flew with the Voz private server. We used to use a separate programme for the voice side of things (cant think of the name of it right now)

Now that I have FSx , I find that I can access the Gamespy lobbies quite easily. But I am wondering what do you use for voice?? when flying with Gamespy.

Voice is served though the game using gamespy itself. Just set up your mic in FSX and you are good to go as long as the room you are in is set up for voice.

Gamespy works fairly well but I find FSHost always works very smoothly if the server is a decent PC....check it very easily. Download this "Yellow page" type program---FSHostSpy--at chocolatesoftware run it and see the many FShost servers online right now....try some and You'll see how easy it is....try the one I use..fss.hopto.org and you'll see that they work pretty well.....but I can set up a Gamespy sesion and try it too, any time after 8:00 PM EST...just let me know.....I fly a lot formation with some guys using the Extra and a lot of Smoke which is much fun over in Hong Kong of all places!!!!......:icon_lol:///---in most
FSHost servers Teamspeak is used for voice and its like talking over the phone, it is surely the best way to communicate online and most hosts have it today...
