Rhumba"s Mesh Is Up

A Heads Up to everyone here. Rhumbaflappy's new mesh and associated files are back in the library for downloading. Boy! That was fast! Thanks SOH Crew. :jump:

And thanks to you, Mariereid, MaskRider, and everyone else who did the "legwork" to help move this along! :ernae:

Wonderful! I am just beginning a new adventure in scenery building and was wishing for some nice new glitch free Mesh for the PTO! In fact I was going to post a thread today asking about where to obtain some glitch free mesh for Borneo, Sulawesi, Halmahera, Moluccas, all of the Philippines etc. This is perfect timing!

Any one know which of these 22 files covers just the PTO?

No, I don't. You could ask Rhumbaflappy, though.

And, you actually start with the DEM file (not up yet)

and then go LOD5 / Watermasks, LOD7, with the LOD8 on top.

I did an ETO scenery guide explaining the order, don't know if it's been restored yet. You can use the guide to set up the files.

Got the watermasking files.

Just had a horrible thought. This upgrade will require some serious refurbishing of older MR Scenery. Yikes.

Thats OK. I needed something new to rekindle my recently flagging efforts and interest.

Problem with DEM8_18.zip

I can't get DEM8_18.zip to extract properly. I have re-downloded it twice and still no joy. Can someone else give it a shot to confirm?

Thanks.
Chris

Yes, it looks like the files are corrupted. Rhumbaflappy or another staff member should have a clean copy...or I can dig them out of my archives.

Hi Chris.

The file is corrupted, as Rami writes.

This is a bit disturbing, as my original is intact... so what other files in the Library are corrupted? And not just mine.

Until the Library is stablized, I don't think there should be a mass uploading of corrected files, but that may occur in the future.

There may be an occasional spike or hole in the mesh... I did little to correct these. FSGenesis probably has the best mesh... the FS2004 mesh there should work. I've read they may go out of business soon. :(

And others have noted my LWM water files look waterlogged. Those were an afterthought, and the auto-processing from Slartibartfast was a little heavy-handed. But I did intend that to be a replacement for the crude defaults, and I did expect others to hone the LWMs at an LOD5-sized level to give us the best watermasking ( and also adding rivers, streams, etc... ), and add shorelines, roads, etc...

Other than Jean Bomber, no one has really stepped up to do that. I had started to rework some of the misplaced default runways... but stopped. I really don't have the time now, and they are pretty much ALL misplaced. And some of the airfields no longer have placement info available on the web. Some airfields are lost in time, as even modern aerial imagery cannot locate them.

Truthfully, most input I've received seems to not care about placement or historical accuracy regarding scenery.

Once the Library is back on track, I'll look into replacing corrupted zips.

Dick

That's the only one.

It could have been corrupted when it was backed up to disk...these things happen.

Rhumba's Watermasking files

Some questions:

I am unclear about the use of Rhuma's water masking bgls. I know what they are and how they work. That isn't the problem. I don't quite understand what the relationship is between Rhumba's new water masking bgls and the stock ones.

Are they totally new and not replacements? Do they have the same files names as the stock one or are they all totally new?

The readmes are a bit unclear because the filenames are described as all beginning with "pac" where all of the files in my 2 WaterMasking downloads begin with "cst". and I don't seem to be seeing the same file names in the stock world/scenery folder as I am seeing in Rhumba's new set. If I extract them all directly into my world/scenery folder I get no messages asking if I want to replace already existing files which leads me to think that these are all new. Which makes "deactivating" the redundant stock bgls somewhat problematic indeed. Hehe.:d

Just wondering. I'm sure I am missing something.

Thanks.

I have fixed DEM8_18.zip, replacing the files from my archives. Who should I send them to in order to be reattached to the server?

Chris,

The Watermasking files replace the stock ones completely in the ETO and PTO. You ever overwrite them or toss out the stock cst.files completely.

Thanks Rami.

Send them to Douglas? With note explaining the problem? BTW I noticed that there seems to be another set of Rhumbas DEM files further along in the file library.

WRT the cst files. So, from a filename standpoint, Rhumba's new files are completely unrelated and separate from the stock cst files? So I can dump all of the stock cst files (85 of them) and replace with Rhumba's new ones (108 of them)?

Ok. So now I have Rhumba's mesh loaded and working and Rhumbas WaterMasking loaded and working. Status- my land and water match up with pretty dang closely with each other- very nice indeed. Only remaining problem- I have no coast lines. Are they in a separate download someplace? A download where the bgl filenames begin with "pac"?

What is the other file?

No sure what you mean here.

PS And yes, since nearly every one of my airfields is built to fit stock CFS2 coast and even the one where I rebuilt the coast were still tweaked to fit the surrounding stock CFS2 coast- they will all require some tweaking. A nice way to pass the time on rainy days!

You said there was another set of DEM files. What was the other corrupted package?

Oh. No, no. 18 was the only corrupted package I ran across. What I was referring to is the fact that in the file library if you page forward- there is another set of Rhumba DEM zips. What's up with those?

BTW: Coastlines? Wo?

Hi Dick. Sorry I missed your post until this very minute. All I have to say is that what you have done here is a vast improvement and I thank you very much. As I said above, your reworking of the CFS2 canvas here has really put not just the stock CFS2 fields out of whack- yes they were already mis-located anyway- but now all of my stuff is pretty well mucked up, too. Hehe! But thats is OK. I'm not crying. Having great mesh with water matching up is a blessing that far out weighs any other such minor considerations IMHO.

I will step up and get the stock airfields rebuilt to fit this new world.- and try to get them properly situated while I am at it. Happy to do it. What I can't find any definite imagery for I will wing to the best of my ability.

BTW, where are the coastlines? I seem to be missing them. Are they in a package where the bgl fielnames begin with "pac"?

Thanks again Dick.

Chris
