Time to announce something new and exciting! Today, I get to show off the first IN GAME screenshots of the Cirrus SF50 Vision! Another collaboration between Milviz and FSD to bring the community quality products!

First, a little info on the Cirrus Vision, in case you have been hiding under a rock. Its one of the first in a new class of jets called the VLJ class (Very Light Jet) and will be one of the first affordable jets available to GA pilots! Jets have been around for over 70 years and its impressive power has finally reached the hands of GA pilots. In anticipation for this monumental occasion, we decided to give FSX pilots a possible preview of what it would be like to own there very own jet aircraft!

Cirrus, makers of the very popular SR-20 and SR-22 private prop aircraft, announced there VLJ project in 2006. This ambitios jet promised to be the "slowest, lowest, and cheapest jet available." with features like fowler flaps to keep stall speed down, extreme visibility, and more interior room then the family mini-van, this may be the pilots dream. A true "family car" in the skies! At around 1-1.3 mil, im sure every pilot will add one or two too there hanger. I know I will! But you can bet that our Cirrus SF-50 will be a little cheeper.

Please note. These are screen shots in Max. What you see is not fancy rendering, but what you will get in-game. Im sure that by the time it gets in game, it will look even better!

Further details will be revieled in the comming weeks. Release date is "when its done" but "sooner then later". Also stay tuned for screenshots of the external model!
 
Be interesting to see if the real thing ever gets built, might be some years away in the PEC (Present Economic Climate).

From what I understand, business is picking up sharply at Cirrus. So much so they have already re-highered all the staff they laid off after the economic down turn. They also have a significant amount of pre-orders. I dont see it failing, thats for sure. They are set to start delivery right on the re-bound, so it has perfect timing.
 
Seriously good looking stuff there! I hope Cirrus is successful, because I really like the concept of the VLJ and this design in particular. Do you know the avionics package Cirrus is planning on using?
 
There were 2 possible packages. The Garmin G1000 derivative (similar to the Perspective), and the L-3. Cirrus recently announced a partnership with Garmin even though they had signed a contract for the L-3.

Our product will have a modified G1000. Its still in development, and we can never be sure if what we make will look like the final product at all. Sort of the risk we take in modeling a production model of a prototype ;)

I am an admirer of that interior. Its very automotive looking. Very high tech for an aircraft.

Considering Cirrus just flew their experimental jet yesterday (I'm an ATC) I'd say yes, we'll see it within a year or two
Well they do need a hefty dose of investor money, which is a little scarce right now.
Eclipse Jet, very similar, did not make it.

Interesting that an "automotive interior" should look so advanced!
In many ways, aerospace technologies have led the field, except in the human interface.
A base-level Honda probably has a better driver experience than a $1million jet.
And there's no reason (on grounds of complexity) why it should be so in the 21st century.
 
Speaking as someone who knows a lot of pilots, they are not one for change in the way they do things up in the air. That may be a prime reason why the interior's have changed very little in the last 70 years when cars have. Most pilots still prefer the "steam" gauges over glass. Even in the most advanced aircraft today youll still find old style gauges as "backups".

Use of steam gauges as backups has more to do with certification authorities cautiousness in relying in entirely electronic displays combined with having independent methods of displaying data to avoid single point failure scenarios.

Pardon me if my question is not specifically related to the Vision. Which one would be more reliable (i.e. get us to the destination with our bags and not in bags) - a single turbo-prop (Dynasty/LT, PC-12) or a single jet (Vision, Victory)?
 
This is only my opinion mind you, but I would have to say the jet. Efficiency, cost and safety are some of the main reasons jet engines are much more popular than Turboprops.

Besides, the Vision has CAPS... (an emergency chute that will, given a serious problem, let you down easy..)

However, that comment is a bit OT...

I would say a jet. Why? Less to go wrong. Both a turbo prop and a jet have the same basic power plant, the jet. But with a turbo prop, you have a reduction gear, and a prop with pitch control. Thats two extra things that can go wrong. Though I will say that jets for turbo props are typically smaller, and centrifugal. Centrifugal jets have very large and solid compressor blades (a big disk) that are a lot less prone to breaking or wearing out. In comparison, in 1945, the Me-262's Axial flow engine needed to be overhauled every 10 hours of flight (mostly due to poor metals) but some P-80 and T-33's are still flying today on there original compressor blade's!

With that in mind, I think its a wash in reliability. Over that, you need to look at other factors. A pure jet will be faster, and quieter. A turbo prop will be more fuel efficiant for longer range, but louder due to the prop in addition to a jet. Plus most turbo props are in front, feeding pasangers noise, with jets being placed in the rear. From all accounts, the Vision is EXTREAMLY quiet, with the V-tail helping to block and channel noise away.
