Somethings wrong!

I think we need a better firewall.:angryfir: I will gladly pay some money to get this problem fixed.

It's not a firewall problem. I don't know the nuts and bolts specifics, but I know it's not viruses or something like that. Ickie's working on it.

I wish hackers would find a different target so that Ickie didn't have to work on it.

I recently experienced some of this kinda junk on my hosting server.

The host admin changed to register_globals = ON and opened Pandora's box.

Never said a word to me about it, until the site was toast.

Just recovered from previous backup and made some changes in htaccess file.

The bad part is, the host admin can really gum up the works by making some of the stupidist changes on the server.

I know I could stop this kinda junk, if I could just afford my own rack server.

what is happening is simple DOS attacks, thousands of request are being made to this server at the same time, and it overloads and reboots. sometimes the data base goes haywire, that is a easy fix. Stopping 100,000 robot computers from coming here and hitting refresh thousands of times, is impossible to stop, unless I ban all the IP addresses in the world, than only I can come here.

its like a drive by shooting,

There are large numbers of Dos Denial of Service tweaks, patches and mods available.

Most of us only login in a few times a day, you could probably limit the actual number of logins allowed to help with this.

If you want to put up a tighter security I think everyone would be a agreeable to it.

Heck, all we want is the site to work. I'm sure we'd all agree to eCaptha everytime we login for sure. I know some sites that are extremely restrictive. You might even think about a doorkeeper site as well.

You'll find most of us posting here are real people. The only reason we don't share real information is... it hasn't been required. This is an older experienced boards. There isn't a poster on these boards that would mistrust you to do anything bad or expose personal information.

Tighten up, I think you'll find we'll support it.
