Time for a reinstall

I've been away from here for awhile... overly distracted with ArmA2 and also in getting my Q6600 2.4ghz overclock up to 3.7ghz (was stable at 3.3 previously) so I'm rather happy about that. Also, since I've finally broken down and got a TrackIR5 on the way I thought I should get FSX happening properly again. As it stands I've installed/unintalled/reinstalled SO many things testing this, tweaking that etc etc that I think my FSX install is a bit... grubby. Bloated. You know. It takes ages to start up, and even asks if I want to allow addons that don't even exist on the system anymore.

I initially thought just dumping the FSX.CFG might be enough, but now I'm thinking I might give it a good flush/reinstall just to have it running it's best (with only the addons I've decided are must-haves) for when the TrackIR shows up.

Hope everyone is well around here. Will be nice to get back to flying again.

Hey Bud...Good to see ya...its been a while for sure..

YUP...Seems like a fresh FSX install is in order...

I'm about to redo my whole rig..All three drives..OC..The whole shooting match....

My God man, everytime I talk to you it seems you're on the verge of a mega-wipe/reinstall. :)

I'm just the opposite, once I get something running, it stays that way till it breaks down, LOL. Waiting on a new PC myself and dreading getting it setup (but praying it gives me good performance without having to tweak the hell out of it!).

I'm rather keen on trying vanilla FSX tonight just to see what my frame rate is with the 3.7ghz OC. It's been a rather long time since I saw default FSX, and it admittedly won't stay that way long.

FSX>Accel>A bunch of scenery etc addons>Some aircraft>Done.

I actually have a list of "approved addons" that I'm installing, and nothing will go into this install unless it's on the list. This first install (that I just wiped actually, freeing up a whopping 40gb of disc space) was rather plundered. AC I quite honestly never flew, scenery for places I had never been and had no intent on visiting and additional addons that provided sim functionality I had no use for. I crave a fresh, clean install that stays that way.

Well..It was acting a tad strange. i thought I was loosing a HDD but manufactures tools say otherwise....

So it must be the install over the OC a while back or something I installed and removed that left uglies..

But its just a thing...

What new computer you getting McD ?

What new computer you getting McD ?

Done quite a bit of research and while I know I'll probably get better FSX performance with an over clocked dual core, I have a few other games I want to play and the extra DDR and 64 bit option is going towards my other design apps which will benefit. Plus this socket should still be in use and have a few more CPUs out till it's changed, so there is a bit of an upgrade path.

Intel® Core™ i7 950
NVIDIA 9800GT - 1GB
