Does the default GPS resemble in any form to a GPS you would see in a real aircraft? I know it does not have the same functionality as the real one but it does it at least look like a real one? ...and if so what sort of aircraft would you find it in?

I would also like to know whether the Reality RXP Garmin 530 (or 430) can be put easliy into the Carenado Seneca 11, Mooney and Arrow 1V replacing the default GPS and if so is the GPS visible and functionable in the VC?

I have the Reality XP in my FS9 Dreamfleet Archer 111 and Baron and miss them in FSX and guess the next best thing is to get either a Reality XP Garmin 430 or 530 and put it into a Carenado aircraft..or I guess I could get the FSX Dreamfleet Dakota....which leads to one more question..is the Dreamfleet Dakota native FSX?

The GPS in the C-172 I train in has very little resemblance to the one in FSX. It has a very small display and is integrated into the panel, to the right of the six pack and above the radio stack. The functionality is similar, but as far as a visual similarity goes, there really isn't one. Keep in mind this changes from airplane to airplane.
 
Thanks guys ..done some further research..the "Garmin GPS 500" would appear in real life to be for aircraft at the heavier end of the GA scale ..the only aircaft I could find on the web with a Garmin 500 simliar to the default were various Citations and King Airs plus a Turbo Otter (a very nice one .. a snip at $1.3m US) and a Saab 340. It would appear that you would not get a Seneca, Mooney 201 or Arrow with a GPS500 in it as depicted by Carenado...and to answer one of my own questions above the Dreamfleet Piper Dakota is fully FSX.
 
I fly with the Garmin 495 in my supercub, and the functionality and appearance are reasonably similar. The 495 has terrain alerting and some other features that are not present in the FSX model, but it is a fair representation of a typical portable unit. The portable units are much less expensive than panel mounted units, as anything installed in the plane has to be TSO'd. A certification process for avionics etc.

I'm a big Reality XP fan, and only fly in the VC.

As I understand, the Seneca comes without 3D knobs, so you could probably fit the 430 into it without problems. I have the RXP 530 in the Mooney, and cannot comment about the Arrow. The other Carenado products I have RXP units in are both the 182RG and 182Q (and 206 as well, but to be honest, I don't fly that aircraft much any more).

I also have either the 430 or 530 in many many of my other aircraft...including the Tailwind :jump:

Now, be aware, that you cannot utilize the RXP provided within Dreamfleet aircraft into another aircraft.

The RXP stuff, although controversial for some as they work outside the FS SDK, are still the best there is as far as true finctionality is concerned.

Those installs look great bkeske..man those RXP units aren't cheap..I guess there are cheaper ones (but less functional) such as the Fiendly Panels and Simflyer units ..another aircraft with pretty good GPS in FSX is the ES Twin Comanche but I see you have swapped it out for a RXP units.......just found a couple of smaller aircraft for sale with Garmin GPS 500s smilar to the default..a Skylane and a Bonanza

I have both the Simflyer and Friendly Panel GPS units. Although better than the default, they do not compare the the RXP units, which are run via the actual Garmin trainer, so they look (unit and display screen graphics) and operate like the real thing. But, as you can see, I do use the Friendly Panel radio panel sets, and also still use the now freeware SimFlyer handheld Garmin in my older aircrfat, or any aircrfat I do not have mounted in the panel itself.

IMO, the RXP units are well worth the extra bucks. Once you have them, you are hooked.
