Now I know from time to time that some of you have probably done this, but for those who haven't. . .here goes.
I took a flight from Plum Island (2B2) to Miller's Field (ME74), which depending on your ride can take from 30 minutes to an hour and 30 minutes, lol. Anyway, after landing at Miller's, I decided to take I-95 into Bangor to the airport and then fly back to Plum.
Loaded up my BMW, set up a new view in overhead view (to watch for the oncoming turns, etc), checked the mirrors, checked traffic and headed out, lol. I couldn't find any way to immediately merge from the side road than runs by Miller's so I had to pick a spot and go "off road" a bit, lol. Anyway, up onto I-95 merge with the traffic and set the cruise at 70, lol. If you've watched the AI road traffic you know that stuff just disappears and then reappears with no regularity, so that was interesting, but for the most part, with all traffic on my side going the same direction it was no biggie. Based on my speed, the AI traffic actually does cruise along at pretty close to the average highway speed so that was interesting, but what was really interesting was when I got to the intersection of I-95 and the road I needed to take around to the airport, lol, lol. We all know this is a sim, but there's still something disconcerting about trying to merge with AI traffic that doesn't stop moving, LMAO. . . It was white knuckle time folks, I could sense a bit of road rage coming on, lol.

Anyway, I was able to finally ignore my impulse to flash the "Hi" sign to a few cars and eventually got onto the airport and followed the perimeter road around to the Terminal. The flight back to Plum was uneventful, lol, lol. PHEW!!

hehehehe sounds fun.

I have done some similar trips but usually in the back country. This country boy got no reason to be fooling around in the big city ;)

yep, know what ya mean boomer. I don't do this sort of thing very often, but since it was pretty close to Bangor International and there was a major highway that went right by it, I figured I'd give it a shot. . .was great fun.

I've also taken a few of the DeltaSim boats out on the Columbia River and cruised up and down from Portland to The Dalles and back. I've been to that area many times and seeing it from the sim (FSX) I can still tell pretty much where the falls would be, and Crown Point and a few other notables. It's different from the normal flying above the terrain kinda stuff and lots of fun especially if others join in who have the same boats and aircraft, then you can fly above the Columbia River watching the other guys take their boats up river, lol.

I am guilty as well of road trips in flight sim. It is interesting and kind of fun depending where you are. Got to watch some of those bridges...some hold you and others you fall into the Matrix....

Most of my scenries are that way. In FS9 at Heathers Ranch you could drive from that to the shop at the airport.

I've taken the unimog atv out for a spin around the mountains in the past. Does anybody remember Bill Lyons Skier in one of his FS9 packages? That used to be quite good fun.

I love FS road trips, especially in the back country, regularly use this beast, basic not much in way of animations but being the vehicle i love well, some things just have to be had!

FSX Project Defender in three versions. A driveable Land-Rover Defender for use with the FSX Mission Africa Challenge. By Dirk Stuck.[/SIZE]

I too am guilty and done the road trips.

A couple of laughs I had was taking the Tailwind and landing on a curving freeway just near EDDS (Stuttgart) and flying/taxiing along with traffic, lol..

A few times, I would glide down a hill where it might have been to steep to keep with the ground, or I would hop over some cars to pass them if the traffic was too heavy on the other side. Using rudder and toe-brakes to change lanes was good fun.

Darn Henry, looks fun:icon_lol:. Why not Sim drive in FSX, we have ships. I think FSX has a tremendous amount of undiscovered fun. It is a creative Sim. Dirk Stuck made several FSX vehicles that are fun and Deltasim makes the best quality Ships. So you get the best of all three worlds in one Sim and on a equal side so does Fs9. Lots of potential in creativity in both sims left to discover.

I was making a Polish military truck Star 266 about a year ago, but I've never finished it. There is no driver too :D

Charles Collyer and John Mears started off their round-the-world flight by having their Fairchild FC-2W2 City of New York loaded on a ship in New York bound for Cherbourg, France. They then took off later in a floatplane, and met it in mid-ocean to cut down the transatlantic travel time.

When they arrived at Cherbourg, the City of New York was unloaded on the dock. Collyer and Mears started up the engine, and taxied it through the streets of Cherbourg with wings folded, and headed for the nearest airport!

(Not FSx, nor FS9, but FS8! It was all I had at the time I developed the Fairchilds; Jim Douglass did my FS9 testing for me.)

It handles pretty good on the ground. Bill, my boys and I have enjoyed driving your Buggattis at different locations around the world; it handles the best of all the ground vehicles we have tested to date in FS8 and FS9. But, we never could find that house in France....

Guilty! I remember driving Piglets half track through the Yellowstone add-on, from the airport. Not all the way across it, but through some of the geyser/spring fields. It was really cool.

I also drove that Messerschmitt often, as it had great visibility and was fun to drive. I think it's the KR-200?

I also remember touring the Italian lakes add-on scenery with a boat that came with one of Bill Lyons releases.

Of course all of that was in FS9. I'm waiting for my dedicated FSX HD to arrive (Ordered today).
