Aero L-39 Albatros

Here's a quick little aussie repaint for those who like, well um, aussie repaints. It's basically the original Russian airforce livery with a changed number, VH-ATD added and a few markings removed and a few others moved about a bit to look like the real thing. As far as I can tell the real plane is based at bankstown airport in Sydney but I may be wrong. She usually appears at various airshows offering joy flights.

I uploaded it to aussiex.org as I don't have a special sim-outhouse logon.

I love that, it does look a bit like a Gnat, but the paint is definately a hawk lol!

Also if you wanted the green cockpit but a grey ejection seat, which files would you need to change to get it to appear in the VC? Anyone know?
 
Are all repaint files of this L-39 the same scale ?

I am actually working on basic "junior" repaints for Central Asia
L-39 from Armenia, Azerbaidjan, Chechnya and Uzbekistan.

My reference material is historically precise being the Linden Hill Decals LHD48009 for the 1/48 scale MPM L-39 plastic kit.

( I am also a plastic modeler for the last ....40 years )

I know then for a fact the that roundels or stars for these 4 countries
L-39's are the same size on the fin sides and on the upper and lower wings.

I use Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro7, Gimp and Paint for my works.

When applying this "same size" markings on the L-39 basic "Russian" colors repaint files, and flightsim test these new L-39 repaints, the national markings appeared around 15 % to 20 % smaller on the wings compared to the "same size" markings applied on both sides of the fin.

Am I right ? Am I wrong ?

So I repeat my question :
Are all repaint files of this L-39 the same scale compared to each other ?

If no, what is the scale comparaison of each file compared to the number one repaint file ( the front fuselage ).

It seems easier to find Nuclear Weapons Release Codes of
Us Submarines than have an SOH Upload ID and password.
( its a joke ..... just a joke )
 
Hi Vaporz. The wings use slightly higher texture resolution than the fuselage does. I don't know the exact scale difference, but I think it's about 15-20% or so, since they are visible all the time from anywhere in the cockpit. Just have to eyeball insignia size differences. Hope that helps.

I am doing some trials and errors repaint modifications and I think that I am close to find a "general thumb rule" that will set the scale to 1.18 for the wings compared to the fin for a "same size" roundel or star national markings.

I will confirm it to all of our "Friends of the Lotus L-39" later this week
with some screenshots proving it.

That sounds about right, thanks Vaporz. Actually the wings were extremely annoying to lay out in the textures at the beginning, hehe. Since they are medium aspect ratio, unswept, and almost box shaped, it just wasn't possible to fit both sides nicely into a single texture and keep decent resolution.

I know that this thread is for the skinners but as Mike come on this forum I have a small question for Mike about the "trims indicators" (Pitch & Roll) and the blue light.

Dear Mike:
I've a little question for Mike about the TRIMS (Pitch & Roll).
When I take-off my L-39 the trim Indicators are illuminate and indicate the neutral position, it's OK.
When I use my trims for the climb or cruise (trim indicators are not illuminate) but when I want put all my trims to neutral position, the blue lights stay extinguish.

Please can you tell me if it's bug or not ?

In external view I can see these trims correctly to work, it's OK. But impossible to put these trims in neutral posisiton the Indicators stay extinguish.

Please can you tell me why I cannot illuminate my trim indicators however are neutral.

No you are not wrong..front fuselage it,s a bit smaller..some texture strech it,s obvious also on the front..With how much smaller ? God knows..I use my "eyemeter" device to scale such things..trial and error works fine too..I have developed a very unorthodox method of scaling them together but it complicated, to explain or reproduce.

I'm changing my verdict on this one. It's really convinced me that it's a ton of fun and beautiful. Adding Yago's repaints made this product for me.


I'll still hold off on judging the flight model until I have more evidence in hand. At first I said it felt really unrealistic, but Deathfromafar claims he's been told by L-39 pilots it feels like a heavy GA aircraft, which is how the sim feels. The bottom does let out of it at a certain low airspeed, but I fly an Arrow just like that which is well, heavy GA.

Reference Historical Text from Linden Hill Decals

As the USSR collapsed and Soviet military forces withdrew from most of the southern Caucasus, much hardware was left behind, falling into the hands of numerousarned groups seeking autonomy in various forms.

By the end of 1992 the breakaway self-proclaimed Chechen Republic Of Ichkeria could already boast its own functioning armed forces and 250 aircraft ( but only 41 trained pilots ) .

As the staff of the Armavir Training Center departed its two bases in Chechnya at Khankala and Kalinovsk, they inexplicably left behind all their aircraft.

At Khankala alone, the Chechens seized possession of 72 L-39's and
69 L-29's, each of wich were armed with two OB-16 rocket pods.

Soviet red stars were overpainted with a new Chechen motif on these aircrafts.

A training regiment was set up at Kalinovsk. The L-39's at Khankala were armed ready for combat, however by November 1994, the security situation in the Republic as deteriorated to such an entend that banditry and anarchy threatened to spill over into neighbouring regions.

Russian Federal Forces now decided to intervene and air raids commenced on Chechen airfields.By December 7, 1994 the Chechen Air force had ceased to exist.

"Yellow 11" was among many L-29's and L-39's destroyed on the ground at Khankala.

Thus began the first Chechen War. Some L-39's left relativly intact, may have been subsequently "repatriated" to Russia.
 
Have any of you painters got a UK registered aircraft underway? I only fly FSX over Horizon VFR scenery for the UK, so would love an aircraft with a G prefix! There are/were some nice schemes out there.
