Reference Historical Text from Linden Hill Decals

Azerbaijan inherited approximately a dozen L-39's upon the dissolution of the USSR.

As with Chechens, the Azerbaijanis allegedly sourced these aircraft from the inventory of the Armavir Training Center's airfields in the southern Caucasus.

Azerbaijan's L-39 heve been pressed into service in a combat role against Armenian forces during the bitter "Nagorny Kharabakh" and "Nachichevan" conflicts.

These L-39 sport the standard "Russian" camouflage scheme. Note the "handed" nature of the Azerbaijani insigna : crescent facing backwards, blue section inwards on the wings and uppermost on the tail.

Kurmadir Air Base is a classic "Great Game" location ; it sits astride the future strategic Baku-Ceyhan oil pipeline and is within striking distance of Iran.

This Air base has been the source of much speculation in the regional press regarding its possible lease to US Gouvernment.

Whether the resident L-39's would remain at the base under such circumstances remains open to conjecture.

I think the L-39 would look rather good in these colours ...

I know it will take some imagination to translate the scheme from a high wing plane to a low one, and there are some similarities to the first schemes pictured in this thread, but I do like it. Anyway, thanks for all the great schemes posted here and one gorgeous model from Mike / Lotus,

Vietnam took delivery of its 24 x L-39's in the early 1980's
directly from Czech stocks. Overpainted grey fin tip and
scratched yellow nose are real.

41,000 views and 928 replies wow!

This plane owns everything woot!

Yeah, that thought has crossed my mind several times. Mike has created a masterpiece.

I keep forgetting to release my VH-KEE paint... I'll try to upload it here tonight after my late class. :redf:

When counting the replies, remember that this thread was not made when it was released like most other release threads, but rather a few weeks before the release. Still impressive though!

Edit: Just checked and this topic has roughly 780-90 posts after release. Very impressive.

Hope so Mike certainly deserves it for creating the biggest mile post in fsx history, I have everything available, but nothing comes close to this, I'm very drunk and nothing comes closer to my mind in the pub than getting home to fly my gorgeous Alba, sex comes second to a good night flight in this now, hehe (honest)!!!

Here's VH-KEE when it was ZK-KEE ..it was overhauled in NZ before it was shipped (or was it flown..range might be an issue?) to Australia

Flying a L-39 from New Zealand to Australia might be a bit tricky. Maybe with island hopping via Lord Howe and such it might work out. This might be worth trying.

According to the manual it's 730nm with external tanks and 450nm without. I haven't managed that yet though - not even close. Maybe I need to tweak my thrust use a little. :icon_lol:

According to Wikipedia it's ~940nm with externals and ~600nm with internals only for the L-39C. Not sure where the big difference comes from. The Lotus is a L-39C, isn't it?
