Up until this morning I had 3 drives: C:/D: and J:(exterior). I was working between AFX and FSX to make some changes in a scenery I was doing and noticed that the programs weren't sync'd up. I went to open Instant Scenery and it wasn't available in the drop down (both of those are on the J: drive).

I started investigating, looking into the properties of the quick start icons and noticed they were assigned to K: drive now. Looking a bit further, here's what happened.

Sometimes, when I boot up in the morning the external drive doesn't come on line immediately, not sure why, it just doesn't. It usually requires that I unplug the power plug and then plug it back for it to spool up. That's what happened this morning and I didn't notice it. In the meantime, I plugged in my iTunes/iPod and when I did, it assigned the J: drive to the iPod, lol. Question is. . .is that permanent or is it going to depend on who get's plugged in first, lol

With USB drives a drive letter is applied as they are plugged in so it should be as you said, "who gets plugged in first".

Reassign drive letters ..

Control Panel

Admin Tools

Computer management

Storage

Disk management

If you unplug your USB drive before shutting down this will stop.....As it assigns drive letters in priority of whats seen...
