What airfield this is?

Hiya guys. Been working/reworking away at DEI airfields to fit in with Rhumba's mesh/masks. Steady progress and lots o' fun.

I have just been working my way west from Irian Jaya into the Malaku Islands. The airfield screenies above is a Malaku area airfield.

Over the weekend I will be putting together a sampling of all the new stuff. I'll post the link at my web site.

It'll be a bit of a hodge podge. The airfield in the screenies will be included along with all new versions of Biak Island, Monakwari, Morotai Island and Sansapor-Middleburg Island. Also included will be brand new MR airfields at Babo, Fak-Fak, Jeffman Island, Nabire, Pulau Gag, Ransiki-Moemi, Sagan, Ternate Island and Utarom-Kaimana. The original MR Noemfoor Island, Wakde Island, Hate-Tobaco and Lolobata all fit in fine with the new mesh and masks.

Cheers,
Chris

I appreciate the comments and will be looking forward to the feedback. If you intend to download this little package- be sure to get Rhumba's mesh/masks installed first.

FYI the airfield in question is Ambon-Laha!

Still tweaking it here and there.

One more screenie:

Great work Chris !
Some of these fields were on my list as well (Ambon, Babo, Jeffman, Nabire, Ransiki & Ternate), but I only did some basic research up to now.
Thank you for this superb work !!!:naturesm:

Arndt

Please don't let anything I am doing slow you down Arndt. Work your list and have fun.

I have a version of Marauke and Timoeka on my list too and have every intention of completing them- just for the fun of it and to keep my hand in.

Those fields look absolutely brilliant! Looking foward to them. Your airfield mods were the very first mods I used on CFS2, and I like to keep them up to date. :icon_lol:

When you say that we should first d/load Rhumb's mesh, are you referring to all 22 zips? Egads, thats a lot of d/loading. :mixedsmi:

Yeah, unfortunately I don't know which zips cover which specific areas. It would be nice, from my standpoint- not to load up Europe or any of the "well" meshed PTO areas from the stock game.

Thanks a bunch masked man!:jump:

As you get your other PNG airfields matching the new mesh I will be doing some work getting everything realligned to both for the 5th's missions. They are already great, even with the surf not exactly matching the beaches.

I was hoping you would make these available. Was drooling over the screenies in your Album Pictures, Thanks Mask

So - can we use any of your old stuff with Rhumbas mesh?
I've got to set up a new CFS2, but first, I've got to build a new mezzanine and office in the Barn (after I've reclad the house, built a new fence, and got a new garage to clear the machinery out of the barn so there's room to put in the motorcycles to rebuild)
So - I have plenty of lead time........

You can but they will all look pretty weird. Some will be out in the water. The shorelines won't match up. No rivers or roads or beaches.

I will come back later and be more detailed in advantages and disadvantages to adding/not adding Rhumba's mesh/masks.

Like you, real world activities have slowed down my "virtual" commitments this weekend- and will continue to do so for the next week or so, too.

Well how do you like that! Reading your post Blue Devil, I looked at Pacific Wrecks for Buka/Bonis and I was finally able to identify a picture that was grabbed off the web from a Bombers Group's site. The title of the picture was only Bomb Run View. It is the one on PW, only larger. Also the BG's site had one of Kairatoe. I'll attach them here in case others are interested. :d

Update: I will start putting the zip together for this little package of airfields and have it ready for download withing 24 hours.

I will be looking forward to the feedback. Some of the airfields are smallish and have small scenery object layouts. Others are bigger with much larger object layouts. Couple the varying object and polys along with the new mesh and masks and it is easy to understsnd why some- even me- may experience minor FPS issues.

Most airfields use a combination of G2K vtp1 polys and standard texpolys. A couple are all one or the other. I been experimenting around.

BTW- Thanks for those images of the Buka passage airfields, dvslats. I'ved saved them and will use them. When I did my first and only version of bonis I had no clue what it looked like- there were no photos available on line. Pacific Wrecks was just getting off the ground and Google Earth was not even a gleam in anyone's eye.

When I am finished- yes these will replaces most of them. Rhumba's new mesh and masks accurately locate the land and elevations that are mis-located in the stock version- the version for which all of the originals- except for the G2K versions- were made. Some of my G2K originals were built using the same SRTM-SWBD that Rhumba's mesh/masks use.

But as a rule of thumb, except Wakde Island and Noemfoor Island, every other MR DEI airfield needs rebuilding to fit the new mesh/masks.

Lots of folks probably won't even be interested in using these fields since the swap out- old mesh/masks for new is pretty substantial. But if you are interested in an ever growing theater of airfields in the exotic surroundings provided by Rhumbas Mesh/masks then these will be fun airfields to have.

I will be rebuilding- hopping around- in the Philippines and Formosa, too.
