A2A Piper Cub Released!

You sure, Scratch ? :)
I used my trackir to take a look on how the Cub looks outside in the internal model and look who I found in the luggage :engel016: "Just press a button in the shift+4 panel" and she will come, hehe ;)

Man, I'm relieved. Same thing happened to me and I thought it was something I'd eaten/drunk/smoked... Glad to know I wasn't hallucinating... or maybe we both are...

I am lovin' this Cub! It sure makes low and slow fun with Heidi aboard! A2A's Accusim is just unbelievably grand as well.

Just an update on frames - they continue to be very good, but several of us are finding we take a hit in very complex scenery areas. I've seen drops in two areas near Plum Island - someone else in the A2A forums suggested that these might be the areas where the whales appear. And another A2A forum member said it ran well in FTX but took a hit at FTX payware airports. The Cub's texture load is heavy so the system can get challenged when the scenery is complex. In my own testing, adjustments to autogen or scenery complexity levels had no effect - the issues are between the Cub and the location-specific scenery. It's really not a problem - you can get through the difficult areas fast (well, relatively fast - it's a Cub) and the penalty is worth it for the atmosphere of the airplane itself - textures, animations, etc. So no showstoppers and at the moment I can't imagine wanting to fly much of anything else. But since I'd answered a question about framerates earlier in this thread, I wanted to post more details.

Ive been gettin total PC crashes when useing this, also I cant get Heidi to appear even when is I can hear her? any Idea's what could be going wrong?

Canada, We have Yellowknife's airport and Water Aerodome that needs some FSX love and Attention badly. You even use slave Lake for Ski Landings at the Water Aerodome. Plenty of area for Cubs of all kinds for all kinds of bushy fun.

This is truly a lovely little plane. Well done to all involved. :applause:

Jan, you uploading that Aussie repaint? :wavey:

Let me know if you need a master Google kml for all fields/airports and water aerodomes for the North West Territory. I just Happen to have one reserved for you and any interested scenery designers.

Congratulations A2A on another fine release.

I was *really* apprehensive about buying the Cub because:
  • it's already available as a stock plane
  • the stock Cub is kind of p*g to fly; I don't enjoy it at all so I was really asking myself "why-o-why do you want another one?"
BUT I've had so many positive experiences with your work over the years I took it on faith I would enjoy your latest offering too. Guess what; now I'm seeing the ol' Cub in a whole new way and it's really a joy to fly. Wow! No wonder so many real world pilot's enjoy them.

The feedback from Heidi is great and is going to help me improve my virtual flying skills; I made (what I thought was) a slightly rough landing and "nervous" Heidi spoke right up: "Owe, that hurt!" Love it!

Looks like a bloody great payware aircraft! I've been watching it's development pretty closely and after reading this thread I'm convinced it's worth the money. Anyone interested in doing a "birthday suit" repaint for Heidi? Might be fun to watch with the Accu-Sim engine vibrations and stall buffet etc :icon_lol:

It is a challenge to run the Cub, although not impossible. I am running it under Win XP 32-bit with only 2GB RAM and an old Athlon 64 X2, plus REX2 weather engine running in the background. Did experience the crash-to-desktop once at one of the Tongass airports. Having said that, with the exception of this one incident, I had no problem taking Heidi for a tour around Tongass. :)

I also notice that the FPS fluctuates a lot more than other planes (mine unlimited). I think it's the AccuSim doing its calculations on an old CPU.

Ski landings as in using the skis variant on water??? Doesn't it sink? :icon_lol:
