Still loving the naval Hunters ....

I can't take fancy screenshots like you guys with your blades of grass, idyllic sunsets, singing birds, chirping crickets, and the like ... so while this doesn't merit putting into the formal screenshot thread, I thought I'd put up a few shots of the lovely Garwood Hunter, with one of the great Andy Ford repaints, taken of the splendid UKMIL Lossiemouth. Oh yes, and I swapped the included Tornados with the excellent Mr. Young's AI naval Hunters (having taken but a mere 20 min to learn the basics of AIFP - easy peasy!), and voila ...

Even in the forefront, the AI looks good!

thanks to all the great modders represented here ... all freeware - hard to believe, huh?

cheers,

Hi DL,

Many thanks for your post and screenshots. It is always great to see things getting used. One is never quite sure if people are still using one's downloads after the event.

I'm busy making a bespoke RNAS Lossiemouth for the latter half of 1960s (with bespoke mesh and photoscenery). John kindly made the AI FAA Hunters with this in mind and is now busy on AI S1 and S2 Buccaneers. I also hope to make a few additional AI models to complete the picture at Lossie.

All the best

Andy

My pleasure Andy - yes, the GA, PR, and T RN Hunters get regular floggings/lovings from me - at least on a biweekly basis. With socked in weather, rain, and blustery winds dialed in, I'm sure it represents that area of Scotland fairly well. Though I'm very happy with UKMIL's scenery, the prospect of 60s period scenery instead of the current HAS, etc - just thrills me! Rob Richardson's RNAS Ford is my other favourite RN FAA RNAS - partly because it's "dated" in the 50s. I'm surprised more UK naval nuts haven't posted shots of it - a lovely station. In my FSX world, RNAS maintained its active role (and not a prison, as actually transpired in 1960). It's a nice, period aerodrome for training flights for smaller aircraft, as the runways aren't very long. Again, not super accurate - but gives a bit more longevity into the 60s.

And AI Buccs you say ... now I'm really stoked!! If/when the Flying Stations S2 and Vics get sorted, it'll be even more awesome.

Why I'm so happy with the change to the AI Hunters is now they're all using "NAVY ###" callsigns - just a small, and perhaps not the most accurate touch - but adds to the immersion, as opposed to just "###" . Speaking of AI Buccs, I'm finding AIFP is a pretty straight forward tool to use - if you want some AI tracks built to/from Lossie to other stations, let me know. A formation flight transitting to say, Gibraltar, might be interesting, though I don't know if I'm quite good enough yet for that. But at least, if you want to add some value to your upcoming Lossie pack with a few AI Buccs and such buzzing around, like UKMIL did with the Fernandez Tornado, I'm happy to help.

Anyway - way off topic - long live the naval Hunters - and hopefully other FSX period RNAS stations (Yeovilton?) will emerge from where to accurately fly these lovely beasts - and their AI mates too.

Regards,

DL

Just my style too! :)

I'm a big FAA nut and it is retro RNAS that got me into scenery design and the ACG. I have two more retro RNAS in the works... another 1960s and the other is currently 1990s ;-)
