FlightSim Developers P38 Now Released

I'm having some really strange behavior after install. Quite a few buttons are functioning opposite of pole position; the attached pictures show battery (lighting) and generator switches (amp meters). Any ideas what could be causing this?

So I decide I can't wait and buy it anyway.

Purchased, activated, and now I'm getting "Error 273, Could not create the file to make abackup of the FS X file "dll.xml"! This is likely due to problems in your Windows environment, or with your security permissions. We recommend you exit this installed, reboot your computer, and then start again."

For what it's worth there are no "problems in my Windows environment" as everything else works and I run a pretty tight ship as far as my PC's are concerned. Security permissions are full admin access on XP SP3, and I've rebooted and tried again umpteen times.

FSD; you might make absolutely stunning aircraft but your installer seems pretty buggy at the moment.

Chris,

I responded to your PM regarding this. It should correct the problem. In case you don't receive my response, and for anyone else who might see this come up, here is what I wrote:

The core problem here is that the installer was unable to locate the critical Flight Simulator file dll.xml in the expected location. This would be the folder where the rest of your FS X configuration files are. The usual path would be:

For Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\[user_name]\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\dll.xml

For Windows Vista:
C:\Users\[user_name]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\dll.xml

Where [user_name] is the name of your Windows login account. The file must have this entry in it in order for the software to work properly:

<Launch.Addon>
<Name>FSDX</Name>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
<Path>FSDX.dll</Path>
<DllStartName>module_init</DllStartName>
<DllStopName>module_deinit</DllStopName>
</Launch.Addon>

Why Microsoft decided to put all of its configuration files in the most obscure directories they could think of I don't know. The installer looks in the location that it should be in, but in rare instances it may not find it there. This solution will make sure the software runs properly for you.

My modern red bull version causes FSX to stop responding. Whether it be loading it from the opening menu or in-game.

I also got that 1173 error.

Kiwikat,

Did you try downloading the installer again? If not that should resolve the 1173 error.

After installing fresh does the Red Bull run OK? I am not sure what that problem can be. Is anyone else seeing this?

anyone else notice the flap lever on the right is only animated if you manually click it with the mouse? I put flaps down on my joystick, but didn't notice a lever in the canopy moving.

maybe I'm looking at the wrong lever?

Regards, Diego

The flap lever uses left and right mouse button to operate it to its stop points , it was a multiposition unit with uncommon stop positions.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

A bit OT here but can we have all repainters please use a separate thread for your contributions and leave this thread for the release and support purposes for FSD.

Thanks

Could anybody please tell me, how i can disable the warnings? All switches are on.
I guess that's my fault if no one else has problems, but i'm also not sure about the light switches.
And i'm not sure if the normal maps are working.

@Jan Kees
Great repaints! :applause:

All of the switches and knobs use custom animations and variables to function this allows them to click and have multiple functions unlike default animations , if keyboard shortcuts are used it will leave the switches in place but activate the system in some cases like the battery and alternators .

The only lights that will go on if you use L are the cabin and panel lighting but the switches will not move .

There are many systems that are on at boot up as well , like battery and alternators .

Hope this helps . C.J

Yes - i get that odd lighting as well

Since I can't post on the FSD forums, I will post here.

I have just installed the Retail P-38. I am running into some problems. Whenever I select the Restored varient, my FSX freezes. It will load up and go into game but then it will immediately freeze and I have to ctrl+alt+del to get out of it. The Older varients work fine. There is another user having the same problem as me and we have roughly the same system config. I participated in the Beta and I have never had this problem up until the retail version. I am running Vista 64 SP2, and Acceleration.

Ok, I have a weird one. If I select one of the P-38s (doesn’t matter which one) and just leave FS sitting at the rotating aircraft selection screen for a while, this happens. At first I thought it was the new FSDX.dll causing it, and also thought it was limited to the Red Bull plane, so I went back to the old FSDX.dll, and experimented with both the Red Bull and other P-38s. The textures vanish after about five minutes or so, although the plane continues to rotate. If you try to change planes at that point, you get the out of memory error. For some period of time after the textures vanish, you can still select the plane and go flying. But if you leave it too long, you get the memory error when you try to fly or change planes.

Prb,
That happens quite often with me and it isn't just with the P-38. I don't know what causes it but I wouldn't worry too much if I was you.

Question this package includes the J model and Redbull racer model

and it looks like dive brakes on one of the screen shots posted

can any one comfirm?

The L version had very fast acting Dive Brakes , they extend in a second as in the real plane and are deployed by pressing the red button on the left side of the yoke , the J version didn't have them .<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

Re OOM error on the select aircraft screen , this isn’t something i have seen but don’t ever recall leaving it spinning for five minutes so i will need to try it out.<o:p></o:p>
