FlightSim Developers P38 Now Released

There is Startup and shutdown smoke , as well engine damage smoke , flameout flames and detonation sound effects under the right ( wrong ) conditions.
I will need to verify all the files were shipped with the installer , thanks for the headsup

well, mine doesn't smoke at all..

I think this is a feature of the upcoming Fw190 - late models from classics hangar. Ill have to check them out as soon as i fire fsx up again

I feel ashamed to bring this up but i cant for the life of me get any performance over 10k. I tried leaning the mixture but no change, it says to climb with the mixture set at auto rich but i cant see a marking and the tooltip or whatever you call it only gives me a percentage value. Help?

Is something wrong with my cockpit? I’m looking at what I think is reflections on the round glass gauge faces. Are they supposed to be this “pronounced”? Sometimes they are less pronounced, but when they are "bright", as in the first pic, turning and putting the sun at a different angle has no effect on them. When I look at some of the other screen shots in this thread, I see a “cleaner”, “sharper”, cockpit, with nice black, smooth textured surfaces, and with just a touch of this effect on the glass. Not complaining (I don’t think) mind you. Well maybe. I’m not sure yet… Just curious at this point.

I have the same..........issue? Makes me wonder if something is wrong because this is the only plane that I have in FSX that does this (that I can remember).

The reflections are something that people love or hate , i had someone ask how to do them like that and others who want them gone , if you would like to get rid of them , make a copy of glass_t.dds name it refgl.dds and they are history.

Performance of the plane above 10000 feet is at its best continous rating with the mixture levers set to rich ( 80% ) and props at full , and you can climb 1200 fpm at 280 kias ( true ) for ever with throttles at 87% .

If you run this aircraft at full throttles after about 8 minutes your performance will start to degrade and after about twelve minutes there will start to be smoke and detonations coming from the engines , you can feather the props if that happens and cut the throttles and dive down to cool the engines off.

This bird had its turbo's kick in with full power and was good for five minutes in WEP mode according to the book , i set it up to stand that and then start to damage the engine slowly , you can set them on fire if you keep it at max long enough , you will hear them start making some nasty sounds and see the flames .

PS/Hint , the lights on this plane are run best using the light bloom on setting.

I have the same but it seems to be only with the P-38J Camo and Yippee versions.

Edit: just renaming "refgl.dds" do the trick!

Thank you for this, the problem was the wide open throttle, i figured this out after typing the question, going back and doing a more umm, civilized climb hahaha, i really must say i thought this would be a total system hog, but after a flight around the dreaded newark/NYC area with heavy clouds i get a steady 24 frames locked and this is on a 3 year old system. I saw smoke, or a lack thereof mentioned in the thread, add me to the list of people getting no smoke on startup, or its duration is too short for me to switch to external to confirm.

I have several issues with the software and tried to sign up for the forums at FSD but I have never received an email response from the forum setup. I did contact customer support (twice) and the second time the reply was visceral and condescending. I love the P-38 and a lot of what I see as new features in an airplane I love, but this is not how you treat customers guys. I have high hopes for FSD and I hope you can sort these issues out soon.

This is what I found until now:
1. Instruments glass have some annoying static reflection in both models.I'm not talking about the so called 'dynamic shine', I'm talking about some buit-in glass texture that appears only in day time.Sometimes you cannot read the indications.Tried the trick w 'refgl.dds' & did not worked.
2. Propeller animations look odd ( not FSX type...).
3. NO start-up & shut down smoke or other effects.
4. In the external view there is a texture problem at the top of windshield frame for all the paints/models; you have to look close.
5. Only for the L model: the guns are firing like they are mounted in the wings.... and as far as I know, they are not:bump:
6. Except for the YIPPEE texture, all the paints have blurred textures on the oxygen diluter and radios boxes.
7. Gunsight light = awfull
8.Ugly decal inside the nose wheel well...it ruins the view, because the nose strut is beautifully done.
9.Front panel texture is missing some decals/ stencils that alterate in some way the realism.

That's all until now, I have no comments about flight model as I need some time to test.

I am not familiar with this particular instance, but if we sent you a message that seemed unhelpful we apologize. As I stated in a previous post in this thread, our forum software is sadly out of date. We have installed some new software and we are trying to get it up and running as soon as possible.

In the meantime we still offer full support by email from our Support page, or you can contact us directly at supportdesk@fsd-international.com.

Again, we are sorry for the inconvenience.

Rather bizarre question but how exactly does one get the bombs loaded? I've followed the instructions in the manual to no avail.

Thanks, Chuck. The refgl.dds trick worked. In the end, what I eneded up doing was to simply delete (after backing up) the refgl.dds file, and not replacing it with anything. The glass_t file made the glass a little too translucent for my picky tastes. But deleting the refgl.dds made me happy. :)

The first step is to go to the fuel and payload menu in fs and remove the Fuel in both exterior tanks then to the payload section and add 00 to the 5 in the 500 lb bombs lines to make that read 500 and you should then have two 500 pounders ready to drop .

You can deploy with the switchbox or use the shortcut on the shift 1 popup and release them over the target from the exterior view.

Thanks, that's the ticket.

Now to figure out which part of the textures reference the drop tanks, rockets and bombs.

Okay, I'm stumped. I've found the rockets and 500lb bombs mapped to the cockpit texture files, along with the drop tanks, however I can't find the drop tank/500lb pylons anywhere. If someone can point me in the right direction I'd very much appreciate it.

The droptanks are on cockpit4 and the rockets and bombs are on cockpit2

the pylons are the highlighted bit in the pic of body2

Looking foreward to seeing what you are up to :applause:

Chuck, while you're at it, would you be able to show where the dive recovery/dive brake flaps are mapped to? I have a couple OD/Grey schemes for currently flying L models, and I noticed that there is some OD showing up on those dive brake flaps.
