FlightSim Developers P38 Now Released

Hi,<o:p></o:p>
I have just installed the P38 and so far I like it, very much up to the standard the I expect from FSD, however I have one small problem, when I go to Start - Programs - FSD I get the message that the folder is empty, so I have no Manuel, can you please advise?<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Many thanks,<o:p></o:p>
Ian.<o:p></o:p>

Some operating system configurations will not give permission access to the Start menu folder the way they used to. I have implemented a workaround for this in future installers, but sometimes Windows will still not allow access to that directory.

If you have not received an email already, we have been working the driver problem causing a loss of gauge visibility as a result of installation of the P38. We have determined that a change made in the XML driver used for both planes caused a compatibility problem that resulted in the YF-23 not initializing correctly. We have repaired that problem and created a patch file for the YF23 that will replace that driver, plus on driver for the YF 23, making it compatible with all of the initialization routines used in the P38. The patch file is 6 MB in size and may be downloaded here:

We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused by this problem, which really should have been corrected in the beta process. If you have any questions or problems please feel free to contact me

I just wanted to say that I finally got to tear some holes in the sky with this Lightning, and I am very happy, indeed. Awesome recreation, FSD and MilVis... I am still learning what does what, but every time I switch to exterior view, I am compelled to take a screen shot... Thanks, guys..

I been having an issue that I have ignored or even misinterpreted until now. I get stuttering with this craft. At first I figured it was a general issue and after lots of tweaking and hair pulling I decided to try some other birds in my hangar, both below and on par with this visually, and they run super smooth.

This release uses 4096 textures and is a very detailed model that can be a drain on resources , reducing the body textures to 2048 is one means of reducing the load , another is to turn off Aircraft casts shadows on itself and Aircraft casts shadows on ground , both of these create a duplicate of the aircraft poly's to display a shadow projection .<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
On high performance computers these steps are unneeded but i find that it can double framerates in a pinch .<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>

The service release is for people who have both the P38 and the YF23. It only modifies files in the YF 23 installation which will make it work properly.

What issue are you experiencing with the P38?

How would I go about dropping the textures to the lower value? I would like to keep my fsx.cfg at 4096 since all the other aircraft I have at 4096 work just fine.

I was wondering why the P38 WWII versions do not have a radio of any kind, anyway no radio shows up in any of my planes. I am know that in WWII aircraft had radios to contract the control tower and to talk to each other while in flight.

The WWII versions were equipped with fixed frequency radios making them effectively useless for communications within FSX or multiplayer.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
That being the case it was decided to leave them as decorations , installing a popup radio is an option if that’s going to be of use in sim for contacting atc
The following added to your panel.cfg will install one in all the WWII versions
<o:p></o:p>
<o:p>Window02=Radio Stack </o:p>
[Window02]
BACKGROUND_COLOR=0,0,0
size_mm=208,129
position=8
visible=0
window_size= 0.208, 0.129

ident=RADIO_STACK_PANEL
gauge00=Handheld_Radio!radio,0,0

Speaking of popups, Chuck, is there some simple code to pop up a zoomed view of the GPS in the Red Bull panel? It seems to be expecting it, as when you mouse over the face you get the pointer and a tooltip that says "zoom view" or something like that. I'm just not sure what panel ID it's expecting to pop up.

Bill,

This is included in the Service Release we just posted.:

Greetings everyone! I hope you are having a nice weekend.

The demo installer will be available later today or tomorrow morning. We just want to bug test it thoroughly before releasing it.

Trying to load demo, but I get this error: "Error 1168: Demonstration period has expired". The FSD sight defines Error 1168 as "undefined".
This problem doesn't fill me with confidence to actually buy this plane. Help please.

Are you loading the demo or the service release?

Thanks for the explanation and code Chuck!

hi, installed the "addon pack", now the panel looks like that...

Thilo

I got the same thing as Thilo after I installed the service pack.

As a test I deleted everything and reinstalled the original program along with the repaint pack, everything was fine.

Then I again installed the service pack for the second time and again lost most dash textures and a lot of cockpit textures.
