FlightSim Developers P38 Now Released

I have the YF-23 working fine.

But when I went to run the P-38 SR, I get "The program cannot update your Lockheed P-38 Lightning because the original installation directory is missing or corrupt. Reinstallation is recommended."

However, I haven't done anything to the P-38 directory. When I originally installed it, I did get the error at the end, but it actually worked fine.

This is under Win 7.

So current status: YF-23, latest SR installed, working fine, except for a "Could not validate license" message at the top of the screen if I use the Shift-F1 helmet HUD.
P-38: Working now (instruments back in the Red Bull version), but unable to install the SR with the other fixes due to the installer error above.

I just downloaded the "new" file and am now missing all gauges. Tried to uninstall, and the program stopped working. Now I can’t even uninstall the new version so I can go back to the older version. Frustrating.....<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
Also, Any chance of fixing the Red Bull textures? The FSD version looks like silver paint, as opposed to the beautiful polished aluminum on the actual aircraft. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
I do look forward to flying this model soon, looks nice.<o:p></o:p>

When did you download the service release? We hap to replace it yesterday because of a problem. You might want to try downloading it again.

If you just downloaded it and have this issue let me know by PM or at td@fsd-international.com and I will get you up and running

I downloaded the SP yesterday morning and no gauges,

I deleted both the P38J and P38L folders from simobjects and reinstalled my original download, everything was fine.

Yesterday afternoon I downloaded another SP, this SP was larger in KB than the first, but still no gauges.

I deleted both the P38J and P38L folders from simobjects and reinstalled my original download, everthing was fine.

This afternoon I downloaded the SP and still no gauges.

I deleted both the P38J and P38L folders from simobjects and reinstalled my original download, everything is fine, except of course no updates.

Now I am still at square one, I thought you might like to know that someone has tried numerous SP downloads and none of them have worked.

Which file did you download? Try running this 3 MB file:

http://www.fsd-international.com/Download/FSDevP38sr.exe

This should clear up any gauge visibility issue.

Let me know if that is not the case.

Thanks Tim,
Everything works fine now!! Nice work. Now, was that a repaired version of the service patch?, and will I be able to re-download a revised version of the original file?

Any thoughts regarding the Red Bull Textures? FSX does such a nice job of displaying reflective "Chrome" textures, as seen in a few of the Acceleration P-51's.

Yes. Basically a repaired version of the service release. The full installers that are on our servers now are also updated as well, so if someone feels they need to reinstall from scratch they may do so. The files are available here:

http://www.fsd-international.com/Hangar/P38/download.htm

If anyone else has any installer issues please send me a PM or an email to td@fsd-international.com and I will help you get the file you need.

Everyone,

Tim is the MAN! I don't know how many emails we went back and fourth, but he was relentless to solve the problem, even when I had given up or just didn't care anymore.

Many thanks Tim!

Thanks Diego. I appreciate the kind words.

Fact is though these were problems that never should have happened in the first place. I was spread way to thin this last week with family health issues, and putting together a new service release. In retrospect I should have waited a week to get it out because mistakes get made when trying to do detail work under such circumstances. But I thought since Chuck put some real improvements in, like making the yoke disappear, I wanted to get the new stuff in everybody's hands. And mistakes got made.

I am determined to come up with a beta team on standby that has a large enough group of people so that at least several of them can test things like this on short notice. We don't want a repeat of this exercise, as we often release product improvements and updates.

Anyway, thanks for all your patience.

Thanks for all your work, Tim,

and I like the model a lot!

Amen to that in spades:icon29:!!

A great add-on I've not had a moment's trouble with. Two paints nearing completion. I'll need to check out some copyright stuff before they're posted.

First let me express my gratitude to all for sticking with us through the ordeal and to Tim for working hard to get the solutions in place in trying times for him personally , it’s hard to imagine the stress level one needs to cope with when you have a unknown number of people who are waiting .
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

In order to ensure there are no remaining issues outstanding i would appreciate it if those who do have a problem could send me a PM with a description of what it is and your operating system , conversely if you had a problem and it has been resolved please post here in the forum that you have had it rectified .
<o:p></o:p>

This will permit the team to complete the task of making sure there are no outstanding issues and developing a game plan for the next projects that will eliminate all possible problems before they affect the customer .

A set of lower resolution textures are being prepared today for those who have FPS issues related to the use of 4096 texture sets and should reduce the load on their graphics cards substantially .

Many Thanks for your patience and assistance in making the P 38 the finest production possible.

Chuck,

I downloaded the full package on the 10th and it was supposed to be up to date i.e. no service pack required. However, after installation I discovered that the gauges were missing.

My first post here led Tim to a suggestion which I tried to no avail. I then downloaded the Service Pack and that did nothing as well. I then re-downloaded the full package again in the off chance the first download got corrupted some how. Same result-no guages.

Finally I tried the split download and that was successful for me. It apparrently contained the neccessary .dll's as I then got the the allow dialogue when I selected the aircraft. This had not occurred with the previous install attemps.

So you may want to check that full package download if you haven't already. Hope this info helps.

Thanks guys for a great aircraft.

~ Thank you FSD ~

Pleased to see that the initial P-38 issues may be resolved now. Congratulations, FSD. Tim & Chuck, you guys have truly stayed after it, your persistence in the face of mounting pressures is admirable. Thanks for straightening everything out in so timely a fashion & for the good words from you both.

Am very likely not flying her right yet : http://forums.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?t=202574 but she is being flown a whole lot here. Shades of the 9th PRS back in WWII (was personally part of the 9th SRW back in the mid-70s @ Beale AFB). There was not any smoke being blown up your wazoos when saying how long this precious aircraft has been waited for. For over 50 years of my life now, the Lightning is a favorite plane of mine. Am aware of much of her glorious history & her formidable records in service. Thanks for so fine of a Fork-tail Devil at so fine a price.

Really looking forward to the lower rez textures too, as my mid-grade rig will like them better performance-wise.
Am hoping she will do very well for you all. She is incredible, a joy to put through her paces & lovely to look at.
Much appreciated, gentlemen.

..

I for one am looking forward to the reduced textures as I really enjoy flying this. The flight model takes the cake in my opinion. Aside from the textures my only issue is I don't have the disappearing yoke. After the failed service release I went back to my original install then used the updated patch. I got gauges, smoke but no disappearing yoke. It's not a huge issue for me really. Running windows xp. I know it says to pm but I'm typing this from my phone at work and I don't know how to pm from it.

I uploaded the reduced resolution texture set and they should be available soon , the lights issue was resolved with a bit of wizardry to release FSX of the control of the bright/night textures, currently if you turn on the cockpit lights the exterior lights will work , i had uploaded the files for this over the weekend and they will be included in the main installer containing a complete set of files for all new clients and for current users to reload when they are completed.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
We will keep you all informed of the proceedings, many thanks for your patience .<o:p></o:p>

I would also like to add my public thanks to Tim who stuck with me through numerous personal e-mails and solved any issues that I was having with this plane.

Thanks for such great service !!!!!
