We'll always have Gutersloh

Yet another interesting airport. RAF Gutersloh was a cold war center of activity close to the East German border. It's been taken over by the British Army as of late and they have this disconcerting tendency to paint everything green. This is obviously before they got to the terminal building:costumes:. Anyone have a Hunter or Meteor I could borrow?

We do occasionally put black wiggly lines on them too, you know? :)

LOL...I know, I spent 4 days on one occasion matching stripes on a zebra painted building...it was UVW hell!:banghead:

Best,

Jim

more...yes, I know it never had any Buccaneers...it just looks good there. This IS a home for the Mosquito though.

And "Red Lead" was our favourite floor colour - usually applied with brooms.

Oh, we mustn't forget the rocks and kerbstones outside the Gaurdroom - they where white and "Guests" had the privilege of making them a gallon heavier...

And our two "Visiting Heli" pads at Ballykelly were so obvious, we never had a problem marshalling the Fishheads or Crabs in - they just flew to the appropriate graphic :costumes:

And there was once a tale about a couple of gallons of whitewash and half a dozen "Heeresflieger" helis in Cellle in the early 70's

Give an air-tech a gallon of any paint and he'll find something to do with it. And if worse came to worse, we'd even paint something green...

But... our most used colour was in fact GSE Yellow. :kilroy:

Alphasim has a FSX Hunter, IIRC.

P.S: Would be cool to see some airbases on the other side of the curtain sometime. Either Lärz or Holzdorf or Trollenhagen or Peenemünde...
