Super Cub and Bears: real life

mike_cyul

SOH-CM-2025
These pics were sent by a friend. Apparently, in Alaska, someone forgot to clean out the airplane after a hunting or fishing expedition, and a grizzly smelled the odour. The results speak for themselves. But, being far from home, the intrepid pilot had a hardware store deliver duct tape and cellophane, plus two new tires, and patched it up and flew it home.

Awesome plane and gutsy pilot!

And, err, no, can't replicate this with the upcoming Super Cub!

Mike

Wow, that is some damage in an extreme sense.
Those bears are nothin to screw with. That pilot did what he had to do. Glad he made it back.
The only thing I see missing is the hide from the bear.
Eh, I am glad that is not being modeled.
Hope to see her soon.

Looks like the Bear was looking for Heidi...:kilroy: perhaps, to go flying with her.:icon_lol:

Poor Guy! :blind:

I like that he took the time to write the aircraft registration on the fuselage, in the first photo. Never forget regulations! :)

Or it could just be humour.... :)

Mike

Well, Mike, hard to say whether humor or compliance. I did notice that the part of the gun boot that normally covers the butt of the rifle is not on. Could be that he will crank one off as he turned and burned, scouted around in the air and serve justice on one bruin. Tit for tat.
You tear up my cub...brown is down.

I got that same email as well.....

Bears can be dangerous. If you live where they are and are out in the woods you better be packin' nothing smaller than a .357 magnum.

.338 Win Mag or 12 gauge my preference for inducing lead poisoning.
.44 for a sidearm.

I have lived amongst some of the world's biggest bruins, and shot them when I had to.
I have much respect for them. I have seen the aftermath when I was in law enforcement.
What was left of a little boy that a bear killed and partially ate...I will always remember.
One boar (coastal brown bear) I shot took three rounds from my .338 and flinched a little but kept walking. It walked probably 30 yards and dropped like a heap of flesh that he was and that was it. I had to kill it in the line of duty. I have several stories of encounters over the years.
Yep, they deserve much respect and a wide berth.

I can see why you added the rifle to the Tundra Extreme, Mike...

Very nice Roger.
In shot #3, ya banked too hard and the top part of the tail fell off??
What happened? Must be my eyes I guess..lol
I really am lookin forward to flying this. I have not anticipated a plane this bad since...
I don't think ever.
