WW I Ships

I was going thru my archives of CFS2 files that I have collected and found my ship folders. I discoverd i had quite a few WWI ships from various sources and wanted to post a list in case anyone is making missions for WWI era. There is just about every significant class of naval unit available, with some substitutions possible. Dreadnoughts, Battlecruisers, Armoured Cruisers, Light Cruisers, Torpedo Boats, Trawlers, which were used as net guard ships and anti submarine and tenders, merchants, oilers, and tramp steamers which could be used as coalers. I included a few more modern ships such as the Freinch light cruisers were were post war but still maybe useful. These are mostly VN Virtual Navy ships with some others, and I may try to see if i can get permisison to upload a pack of all of them, but it will take a while to get permissions on that. Most of these are availble or were, here on SOH.

I wish there were some more German Dreadnoughts represented. And i am still digging to try to find some Torpedo boats or even an early US four piper faragutt class type DD. The USS Lexington Class Battlecruisers are similar to some existing ship classes so they may be useful.

If anyone has any more to add to the list that would be great. I would love to find a CFS2 Zepplin we can add, I have one but it is part of a commercial payware set and dont have permission to share it yet. The Germans used them as naval scouts. I havent tracked down WWI SEaplanes yet.

SMS Emden LC
SMS Scharnhorst AC
SMS Weisbadan LC
SMS Seydlitz BC
HMS Chester LC
HMS Sydney LC
HMS Invicible BC
HMS Hood BC
HMS Iron Duke BB
HMS Tiger BC
HMS Petard DD (Actually a TT)
HMS Hood BC
HMS Lion BC
HMS Repulse BC
HMS Furious 1917, 1918 CV (one of the first aircraft carriers)
FNS Milan LC
FNS Primauguet LC
FNS Epervier LC
FNS Albatros LC
Merchants
Waverley Paddle Steamer
Merchant Tanker British Endurance
Merchant Tanker Capulet
Merchant SS Martha Hendrik Fisser
Merchant SS Scannpenn
Merchant Tramp SS Adventure
Fishing Boat Pack
Kihansen Trawler
Sampan (Collins Shipyard) for Far East Campaigns if anyone does Tsing Tao :)

Subsittutions possible:

USS Arizona for Dreadnought classes
USS Lexington BC (pre conversion) for some BC or BB

some of the US BB's would work as various classes of earlier Dreadnoughts such as the Arizona.

The barrage balloons we have could be used as observation balloons which the British used towed by tenders for ariel observation before the adoption of seaplanes for that purpose.

Thank you Collin, i forgot about her, thanks so much and thanks for your wonderful ships! your Sampans would work great if someone does the Siege of Tsing-Tao in 1914. :)

So far I think we have the ships and assets to do:

Dogger Bank
Falklands Von Spee
Battle of Coronel
SMS Scharnhorst, Gneisenau, Dresden, Emden, Leipzig, Nurnberg
HMS Canopus, Glasgow, Good Hope, Monmout, SS Otranto
Hunt for the Emden
SMS Königsberg on the Rufiji River
Batle of Coronel
Battle of Jutland... Windy Corner (prob dont have enought to do the whole thing yet unless someone can make us some more Dreadnoughts and a german TT)
Siege of TsingTao
Bombardment of Falmouth

Tsing-Tao was a German City in China...They make a Good Quality BEER....and there is a beer with the Same name.

If anyone has any more to add to the list that would be great. I would love to find a CFS2 Zepplin we can add, I have one but it is part of a commercial payware set and dont have permission to share it yet. The Germans used them as naval scouts.

The barrage balloons we have could be used as observation balloons which the British used towed by tenders for ariel observation before the adoption of seaplanes for that purpose.

There IS a Zeppelin available as freeware - it's being elusive, but I'll find it.

As for Observation balloons, try downloading the Parseval Floaters from Aerocrate:

FOUND IT !

I have a ZIP copy of Doug Westfall's USS Akron and Macon from 2001. It seems that, sometime back, I Photoshopped an Iron Cross onto one of these and created a Bootleg Zepellin..... Not sure how to find Mr. Westfall for permission to re-upload, tho...

the HMS Erin would be wonderful! we need dreadnoughts very much!!!!! can you share her?

HMS Erin was a King George V class BB modified, special ordered for the Turkish Empire but commandeered by the RN. Acutually both she and another great ship, the HMS Agincourt were both commissioned and paid for by Turkey, village women even sold their hair to help pay for them, crews were ready and in training (turkish crews) and at the last moment, the RN siezed them to add to the huge Grand Fleet.... as both were built in England, with conivance of the builders, the operational labels for all the machinery were printed on Turkish on the front and English on the back :)

ok, re the aerocrat balloon i have those files i wll seek it out and include. Wonderful re the Akron..let me see if i can find him. After dinner :)

There is also the FS2002 WW1 Scapa Flow scenery by Bortdafarm which works fine in CFS 2. It includes moored shipping at Scapa Flow, Rosyth and Cromarty. HMS Argus, Hermes, Vindictive and a number of smaller vessels including sailing ships are included as scenery objects. You can land on the Argus. I think I downloaded it from AVSIM.

Kevin

That would be wonderful as that would give us Scapa for the Grand Fleet to sortie from and to make attacks on, just need Wilhemshaven and Keil then..

but.sadly it is not to be found here, where it is listed but i guess not restored after the last crash, or on Avsim... I will go thru FlightSim sceneries for FS2002, one by one as it does not show up on the search.

does anyone have it ? I hope i HOpe :) Kdriver do you still have it?

here is the info:

scapaflow.zip (2.67 Meg) (downloaded 931 times)

FS 2002/4 WW1 G-max ScapaFlow scenery..4 landable WW1 aircraft carriers plus dozens of assorted support vessels BB's seaplane carriers (many landable) plus fleet/carrier at Cromarty and shipping at Rosyth etc..
by bortdafarm

Looks like bortdafarm's last upload was 2005, no listing here as a member, and he seems to have been active in a number of sims, Shells of Fury, First Eagles, SH III and to have made some really nice things but i cannot find any posts or uploads from him recently.

I really hope we can find this. If you have it and are willing to share, PM me and I will give you my e mail addy.

We did get lucky tho, there was one link for a Bodafarm plane still working a Short 166 seaplane bomber
nice addition. :)

here it is :in attachment.

Gary Aumaugher of Aerocrate did a Zeppelin, the L44, back in 2007. I don't see it at his site anymore but I have it. I also have the Scapaflow scenery.

Send me a PM with your email and I'll try to get them to you.

Great Cody thanks a lot.

Wreckage of L44 in France after being downed by French forces

some of the raids had large numbers of Zepplins working together, i have seen record of up to 8 at a time, a great resource for info and naval events from the German side is the excellent account by Admiral Scheer which is now on line:

http://www.richthofen.com/scheer/

Kevin and Cody both were kind enough to send me Scapa Flow and it looks great. It is a large set of bgls that add shipping and details to both Scapa and the area in other locations, including the HMS Argus and the HMS Empress of India which is one of the Royal Soverigns that was converted. I will try it al out in CFS2 later on and will also see about uploading it to the file library here so others can enjoy it too, as well as the Short 166 that I found today ... this is great progress ... thanks so much guys.

Possible CFS2 WWI Naval Pack 2.0 (Pending) All units and resources are pending permissions.
this is the READ ME from a potential Pack of resources, Planes, ships and scenery for WWI Naval missions and campaigns, I still have to study, tweak, possibly do some additions and find more planes, and get permissions to include as a pack. For now, this is a beta working list fyi, and any suggestions or additions are very most welcome: If a pack does not turn out to be feasible I will upload a List and a Read Me with sources and links for getting this set for campaigns and missions.

Proposed CFS2 WWI Naval Pack
==================================================================================
These ships are shared as is, and are all under thier original release Read Me's which
are included with each model where possible. They are not to be uploaded without the
permission of the authors. Most are VN Virtual Navy Ships and have full read me's
and files for installaiton in the ship folder of CFS2. These should allow missions
to be created from large Jutland style fleet actions to individual campaigns and
actions from historic records. Almost all major ship clases are present, though
individual types are not always represented. Also included are some relevant air
craft including rigid and non rigid airships, observation balloons, and scenery including
battlefield scenery, Scapa Flow and area Royal Navy Fleet Anchorage, and some
effects. Future releases by the community hopefully may be included in updates as
work is underway on significant resources for WWI eara for CFS2.

Sources: Virtual Navy, Aerocrates, AlphaSim, Individual makers: SOH, Avsim,
Flightsime, Simaviation, Aerocrate Sites.
Updates planed as more resources become available.

Excellent Collin, i was hoping to find one of the folding wing variants for the carriers. And the one you suggest comes with working torpedos! Perfect for anti ship anti sub.!! thanks very much for the suggestion. I had Stuarts wonderful fleet of planes, i love his Staaken and am only sorry it is for FS9 only..i wonder if there is any way to backdate it for CFS2, it is a beutiful model.
