Beaver/R-985 sound pack uploaded

OBIO

Retired SOH Admin
I just uploaded a sound pack for the de Havilland Beaver or any plane that uses a single Pratt and Whitney R-985 radial engine. This is not like other sound packs....this one has no manners. It is loud, rumbly and RUUUDE! Just the way I like them. This sound pack was tested by a fellow site member who spends ample time at the controls of a Grumman Ag Cat (also R-985 powered) and he said that it is the closest to the real deal he has heard in flight sim.

Here's a twin engine config file to use with the new Beaver/R-985 sound pack I uploaded. Save the attachment to your computer, rename it to remove the .txt from the end, make a copy of the Beaver sound pack and drop this sound config file into it.

Greetings,

Would love to add this sound pack to the Beaver as soon as possible, cannot find a download link anywhere, any help here would be great. Gonna give my loud neighbours a taste of their own medicine as well if that's ok.

Thanks Obio!

Back in the day, the Army had Beavers (U-6 was the nomenclature) and I flew in them a few times. I even got to pilot a couple when I was up in the front right seat.

If you are anywhere near one when it takes off, there is no mistaking it. The prop tips must be supersonic as it sounds like a machine gun at take off power and pitch. Funny though, you don't hear that effect when you're inside the plane.

Thanks, Obio!

Jagd, that brings back memories...

Back when I had my C152 I would offer the controls (yoke & pedals) to passengers when I had sufficient alttitude and free of obstructions. Some wouldn't have anything to do with it (lol) and some did rather well for having little flight experience.

The prop seems a bit similar to a C152, I recall (if correctly) when the window was open at start up it would have a pronounced swatting or small popping sound from the prop after the engine was started and the revs were up, but when closed up it was not nearly as noticable as the engine was.

Well, I don't want to contribute to making too much trouble (lol), but judging from the thread start date this download is probably in the Warbird's Archive section.

Yep, it is. Here's the link if still needed:

PS. Obio wouldn't be your neighbor by any chance?
:jump:

(kiddin around of course)

Glad the thread resurfaced! I was deployed given the date of the upload and must have missed it. It'll be nice to have the smaller radial sound of the R-985 in my library. I think I'll spend some time this afternoon re-aliasing some of my smaller radial engined planes to the R-985 sound files.

R-985 was a suceess :O

I never In my life heard something so loud and ruthless, all i have to say is PERFECT. Sounds tested with Microsoft Flight Simulator X, Model is Grumman Goose_HD re-created by OzX people with DX 11. Say, while everything is off in the plane is it meant to make sounds at all? Im getting some strange sounds from the engines while they are offline. A bit odd but this is the real deal here, I think my keyboard was vibrating and If I would of turned my speakers people would think I have an Airport in my computer :kilroy::icon29:

I missed this sound pack download also. I played the sounds with WindowsXP Media Player (don't have it in CFS2 yet) and really sounds good!
