Wings of Prey

Hmmmmmm

Never heard of it till now....

Thanks for pointing it out....

Wings of Prey is a console game based loosely upon IL2 Sturmovik. (note: the game is not made by Oleg Maddox or 1C company). A PC version of the game is in the works.

I have tried it out and here a short review in pro/contra

Pro:

A better than average FM for a console game (no comparaison to a real sim though)
A better than average DM for a console game
Incredible graphics for a flight sim/game
Incredible, never seen before ground details
Very nice plane modeling and graphics
lots of WW2 planes with different campaigns
Great (and correct) cockpits

Contra:
Multiplayer bugs
Few missions
Need to "unlock" planes via mission results
FM and DM never come even remotely close to a real sim

Resume: WOP situates itself way above the usual arcade flying game. It fails however to come ever close to a real sim, even on it's 'simulator' settings. But it's great fun to fly and can be a first step for someone to try out real simulations later on. It has incredible graphics, especially the ground details, cities and buildings blow everything away that has been seen so far, FSX included. Planes are overall faithfully modeled, with nice textures, great cockpits and sounds.
Overall rating from me 7/10.

Isn't the console version of IL2 called Birds of Prey? edit: Read the interview and now understand the name change. I wonder what the "cockpit view but no virtual cockpit means." No clickables maybe and how about panning the view from within the cockpit? Does this mean the old 2D Panel?

All cockpits are in full 3D . ;-)

Thanx, KOM.Nausicaa, a 3d cockpit helps the immersion in a sim immensely and is an absolute necessity in an air combat sim.

Wasn't Wings of Prey a title on the Commodore Amiga ...... errr 1 million years ago.
If I remember it correctly it had about 20 aircraft and they allhad the same flight model be it a Spitfire or B17. lol
